Elderly friend in hospital in UK - any way I can find out where?

Hello,

A friend's friend who is in her 80s is in hospital in the UK but we don't know where. May be in the one closest to her home but not necessarily (we don't know why she is in hospital). We don't know any of her family or friends, so no way of contacting her via that route. Is there any way to find out which hospital and ward she is on, so we could send her a message via the hospital's patient liaison team? I fully understand we can't get info on her condition as we are not next of kin, but would like to somehow get a message to her.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Gosh there must be a way. I don't know what it is but let's start - what area?

DAC12 · 02/06/2020 16:56

Thank you so much for responding!
I am so stupid, wanted to add the area: Rotherham, South Yorkshire

I doubt you would get that information. Data privacy would prevent the info being disclosed to you.

You could phone the big hospitals.
If she is awake they can ask her for permission to tell you.

Thank you!
I am phoning her closest hospital tomorrow to try to leave a message on the off chance.

@mummmy2017 Do you mean to leave the same message in all the surrounding hospitals in the hope one might get to her? May be the best strategy.

Rotherham General's the most likely, unless something unusual has happened to her. I may be wrong but they used to be able to tell you if someone was a patient but not give you any info - that may have changed.

Today at Rotherham hospital they said they could not share that info, which I understand. They gave me the number of their patient liaison team who can help deliver messages to patients, so I am hopeful it may get to her.
