America **MNHQ edited thread title**

I'm starting another thread because I don't want this to get lost in amongst all the other threads.

TRIGGER WARNING upsetting video
The way the police treat these students because they were out past curfew. Apparently an alert about a 9pm curfew enforcement was sent to Atlanta residents at approximately 9:13pm so they were already out.

As you can see the girl in the car in front got away scot free (wonder why) and is even laughing and waving at the camera.

Are you American? If not, your title is a tad disrespectful.

Morporkia · 02/06/2020 11:53

Yeah cos America is the cool, calm collected corner of the world. Known internationally for its rational politics and respected president. Have you seen the news. AMERICA IS BURNING AND THE PRESIDENT IS FUELLING THE FLAMES. So yeah I agree with the title of this thread. America is a hellhole with its very own satan.

MarshaBradyo · 02/06/2020 11:58

It’s unbearable.

Notmyrealname855 · 02/06/2020 12:01

Wouldn’t go there if you paid me... went ten years ago and loved it. Really wanted to live there one day.

To anyone against the “violence” - firstly a LOT of white people are looting, with little repercussion as ever. Secondly, not much has changed with racism since forever, so very genuine question of what would it take for America (and here) to change?

FourPlasticRings · 02/06/2020 12:02

Yeah cos America is the cool, calm collected corner of the world.

Never said it was. But name calling never got anyone anywhere.

Guttersnipe · 02/06/2020 12:07

Well, to try and see the other side, that couple were resisting arrest. But then, if I was a young black person in America right now faced with that many police in riot gear, I too might refuse to leave the safety of my car. How scary it is in some parts of the world.

AKissAndASmile · 02/06/2020 12:21

Well for starters they were wrongfully arrested. But even so, you think how they were treated was justified? Wow.

I don't see how encouraging people to view more police violence helps anything. We already know it's happening, and has been for decades. The American apple doesn't fall far from the European tree and there is plenty of shite on us already.

With the history of protestors and other people just being out and filmed during these things showing up later badly assaulted or dead in suspicious circumstances, I really can't see the benefit. The only ones who need this kind of footage are people who can provide legal aid or similar direct benefits. Going on about what a hellhole an entire nation of over 320 million people is does fuck all.

FourPlasticRings · 02/06/2020 13:23

@Guttersnipe

I saw the following on Facebook the other day and it very eloquently explains why someone might resist arrest. It's a few years old now, but worth a read.

Wow to your comprehension skills! Where did I say that? I pointed out they were resisting arrest. I then said if I were them, I would probably have done the same thing. My final sentence lamented the state of some parts of the world.

Try to read and comprehend before jumping in with an aggressive post.

It's like this all over MN lately, unfortunately.

Guttersnipe · 02/06/2020 14:05

Good article @FourPlasticRings. I am aware of the situation but it was interesting to read his experience.

donquixotedelamancha · 02/06/2020 14:08

I disagree. I think it's the only thing which might start to solve the problem.

It's very easy to want to support the police in the difficult job they do. Easy to think that most of these complaints are one bad apple or are misreporting or exagerated.

You'd have to be mad to think that video was OK.

littlejalapeno · 02/06/2020 14:16

That’s disgusting! Those poor people. This is about power and punishing black people for daring to criticise the police for their horrific, abusive actions. That poor boy is in shock and all they want to do is beat him.

We must stand in solidarity and not let this injustice and abuse of power go unseen and unpunished.

Oh excuse me, my mistake. The place seems like paradise.

Yes, because hellhole and paradise are literally the only two ways to describe a country.

I was being sarcastic in an attempt to point out the ridiculousness of your claim that a country must be a paradise if it isn't a hellhole.

We had our finger on the button early February for a long planned trip to Washington DC, San Antonio and Austin.

I said let's see how things go and do it next week.

So glad I didn't hit that button, and with due respect to our US members here, I will not be heading
Stateside anytime soon. Well if Trump is re elected it will be Four More Years! Sorry now.
