Why can't I find anything I want to read on Kindle book store? The titles seem to have been the same for years

Years is probably an exaggeration but the recommendations "for you" list and even the bestsellers list seems to stay the same for a very long time and it doesn't feel like there are many options.

I can't find anything I'd enjoy at the moment! I'm sure that's a bit daft of me but I do want to find something I feel really excited about reading and want to pick the Kindle up for. Is it better to look up recommendations online and then search for them?

Hi
I think (and it's just my POV) that the reccommendations on the kindle site itself are crap and just driven by whoever has paid to get certain titles featured.
Unless stuff is cheap enough to take a gamble on I only ever buy stuff I've seen positively reviewed elsewhere - even if I have to hunt for it!

I always filter the free ones and sort by 4 star and try some of them, quite often I'll go on to read others by the same author.
(I find this a lot easier on the laptop than my phone)

What do you mean by kindle bookstore? You can buy any of the millions of books on amazon via your kindle, how can you not find one you want to read Confused

I think it’s to do with the algorithm. What sort of thing do you like to read?

TriSkiRun99 · 31/05/2020 20:16

There’s been some book club threads on here that I’ve picked up ideas and good housekeeping magazine used to have a book review page I got a few ideas from (I haven’t had the mag for quite a while so not sure if they still do it)

ScrambledSmegs · 31/05/2020 20:18

I know what you mean. I tend to get my recommendations for books elsewhere and then if they crop on the daily deals I get them.

Laquila · 31/05/2020 20:19

Yes I know what you mean. I generally look up books I've enjoyed and then sift through the ones in the "people who've read this all's bought" section. It's very annoying though - the front-end Kindle bookstore home is terrible! I don't know why their algorithms aren't better. I've never in my life read anything with a 1940s redheaded nurse looking wistfully across Liverpool on the cover and I'm not about to start now.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 31/05/2020 20:25

I don't use the best sellers or algorithms. I get my recommendations from The Times Saturday review, Book Twitter people, and the 50 book thread on here. Tell us what you fancy and perhaps we can recommend something?

StatementKnickers · 31/05/2020 20:27

What sort of thing do you usually enjoy reading?

AnnieCartwright · 31/05/2020 20:30

You can go into your account settings and change or delete your current preferences. I tend to do as a PP said and follow other users or other books by the same author.

Anything new I leave in my wishlist until the price drops.

Trying81 · 31/05/2020 21:28

I’ve been reading the Rachel Abbott “Tom Douglas” series

Probably the best of the unlimited books I’ve read so far.

Trying81 · 31/05/2020 21:30

Ah I read that as on Kindle Unlimited for some reason.

Buying books I tend to try something on the Richard & Judy list as they’re generally on offer
