Going to the beach solo

I live close by to some beaches. I have swimming togs. I don't swim. I want to go to the beach and get into the water for a paddle around in the sea water. I want to do this early in the morning too.. Like before 9 am.

Would you go to the beach solo? I'm afraid there might be people out walk who might think I'm weird to pick a spot in the sand, take off my clothes and put on togs and go into the water.

Hell yes do it who cares what other people think? Last year I took myself down the beach with a sun shade and spent all day there. Took a packed lunch, just kept moving myself up the beach as the tide came in. I just spent ages swimming about, occasionally reading, sunbathing. Glorious day with nobody to please but myself

Standrewsschool · 30/05/2020 08:39

No one will even notice. I went for a walk along the beach last week, and there were quite a few solo sunbathers.

Teacher12345 · 30/05/2020 08:41

Absolutely! Much easier to social distance alone anyway.

Lulu1919 · 30/05/2020 08:44

I live in a seaside town....I often spend time in the beach alone.....I take a book and a cool bag of treats ..it's good for your soul !!!

NerrSnerr · 30/05/2020 08:44

Why would anyone think it was strange?

SMJYellow · 30/05/2020 08:49

OK. Thanks for the replies. I don't think I will be lounging in the sand. I just want to dip into the sea and paddle for a little bit.

Jesus, I'm sorry OP, but come on - really? Do you have some kind of anxiety disorder or something?

No one is looking at you. No one cares what you do. Just go to the beach and have a nice time.

Firefliess · 30/05/2020 08:50

I used to do that sometimes as a teenager after school when I lived by the sea. I really miss the sea and don't live near enough to visit for the day without fearing being accused of being"hoards" descending on the only breaches vaguely within range. Quite envious! Enjoy

JoMarches · 30/05/2020 08:51

Sounds 100% normal.
Are you irish OP? (Togs, lol!) If you go down to the forty foot there are always plenty of solo swimmers. Solo swimming is the norm. I know, because I watch them, on my own. Grin

Scarby9 · 30/05/2020 08:52

Would you see someone on their own and think they were weird or it was odd? It wouldn't occur to me. Go for it.

mumofone2818 · 30/05/2020 08:53

this sounds amazing to me!! i would love to live near a beach to ho myself early for a swim

Carrie7469 · 30/05/2020 08:56

Definitely do it and have a brilliant time

wedding2021 · 30/05/2020 09:11

I'm not sure what togs are but if you're not swimming and only paddling your feed can't you just keep normal clothes on if you'd feel more comfortable that way? I think you're overthinking this.

Landlubber2019 · 30/05/2020 09:12

Just be safe, many beaches have no lifeguards and rnli are advising swimmers to be cautious. A seasoned suffer nearly drowned in the last week

Cyllie33 · 30/05/2020 09:15

OP that is a very anxious thought to have. Do you worry about being seen going for a walk alone too? It’s perfectly fine to swim/paddle/walk/anything really alone - no one will be thinking anything of it, or even taking any notice.

Riotgirlxxx · 30/05/2020 09:16

Do it! That sounds brilliant. I'd love a bit of child free beach time. No one will think it's strange.

stellabelle · 30/05/2020 09:19

I often go to the beach alone. If you're not going to swim, why not just wear shorts if you want to paddle. Or wear your togs with clothes over the top, so you don't have to get changed on the beach. That's what I do .

ImFree2doasiwant · 30/05/2020 09:24

God yes. I have small children. I'd LOVE to go alone.

feliciabirthgiver · 30/05/2020 09:37

Yes of course, I'm on the coast and often go solo to the beach, sometimes take the dog, sometimes take the kids and sometimes take a can of pimms......

Somanysocks · 30/05/2020 09:47

You're making it sound like you're less important than people that are not on their own. You're not.

Clymene · 30/05/2020 09:56

I do it often. If I'm not going for an actual swim, I don't change.

tsmainsqueeze · 30/05/2020 15:34

Do it ! i thought i was being a bit wild stretching my sainsbury's shop to two hours last night , just for the thrill of being alone.
What i would'nt give to be alone on a beach , total bliss , do it soon and have the loveliest time , soooo envious.
