What do you think about this possible new Labyrinth sequel?

My first reaction was nope. Too late now, can't make a Labyrinth sequel without the original Goblin King.

I do still think this but I am really curious as to where they take this in terms of plot lines and characters. Will they bring Jennifer Connelly back? What about Toby Froud? They need to at least have the original Sarah I think.

Or maybe they just need to leave it alone and not ruin it Grin

I saw something earlier about fans demanding that Tilda Swinton play Jared’s character.

I wish they would just leave it alone. Grease, Dirty Dancing etc, none of them worked very well. Plus it was very much of it’s time. I’m not sure they could create the same atmosphere now.

Langsdestiny · 29/05/2020 22:25

I loved it at the time but actually it's really creepy.

Langs Agreed. A middle aged man’s obsession with a teenage girl isn’t good.

I read that about Tilda too. Really not sure. I take your point about the grease and dirty dancing sequels, they were terrible! Whoever plays Jareth has big boots to fill!

Just No!

BookSkark · 29/05/2020 22:40

This was the first film I ever sent to see at the cinema. I had nightmares afterwards and didn't go to the cinema again for about 7 years! I love it now though - even if it's taken 30 years to get over it. But it was a film of the 80s - not sure a modern sequel would work

IndieTara · 29/05/2020 22:48

It's one of DD's. Favourite films. She's 11 I'm 53 watch it a lot

Broceliande · 29/05/2020 22:55

I never thought it was creepy - Sarah has all the power, and the goblin king is her fantasy, right? I certainly fancied David Bowie when I was her age! He was playing role she cast him in, which is why at the end she defeats him by realising he has no power over her. If you look at her bedroom at the beginning, everything she encounters in the Labyrinth, everyone she meets - they're all there amongst her things... I always thought it was a film about growing up rather than a love story.

Tilda Swinton would be a really interesting choice.

There was a manga sequel I read a few years ago, Return To Labyrinth. It went into a bit more depth than the film about how the Labyrinth came about and how the magic works.

I wonder if they're going to base it on these.
