speed camera or something else?

First all, I really am asking for a friend.

They were driving and approaching traffic lights when she had a bright flash in front of the car which dazzled them. What could it have been apart from a speed camera and why would it flash at the front of her car? I thought they flashed at the back of your car?

It's been really bright today, could it not just have been glare off something?

It was dark so only if it was a reflective sign or something?

Possibly someone jumping the red lights in the oncoming lane. Those cameras still have a flash.

Not sure if the new high up speed cameras need one anymore.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll text them tomorrow - thanks. The lights were green for my friend. It's not a town I know so I have no idea of what it's like or what sort of camera is.
