A driving question - roundabouts

If someone said to you, "use the outside lane" at a roundabout would you think they were talking about the left hand lane or the right hand lane?

I would have thought that you would need to be in the correct lane before you get to the roundabout, whilst you are still on the actual carriageway? So you would refer to whatever lane on the road they should be in coming up to the roundabout.

It would be a bit pointless to tell someone to get in a different lane whilst they were already on the roundabout🤷‍♀️

The inside of a circle would be towards the center.

Roundabout is just a circle made with roads!!! What is so confusing about it?!!!

Outside lane is you're leaving in the next exit, towards the inside the longer you're staying in the roundabout

I would assume you were talking about what lane I needed to be in on the approach, so right hand lane.

On a roundabout the inside lane is on the right. On a motorway the inside lane is on the left.

Exactly, it’s not difficult. Saying that roundabouts must be inside/left because motorways are, makes no sense.

It depends on what is actually being asked. On the roundabout itself the outside lane would be the left lane, i.e. the larger radius, the inside lane would be the right with the tighter radius. However in practical terms such an instruction would probably refer to the lane used to approach the roundabout, in which case the inside lane is the left, or kerb lane, and the outside lane the right lane.
