How long does it take to lose baby weight?

I know everybody gains different amounts of weight. I think I probably gained around 2st. I want to go back to be between a size 6-8. My size 10 clothes fit absolutely fine, some even loose and even some of my size 8 and size 6 tops are fitting too. I just have saddlebags and and big bum now (although I still have 2in to lose on my waist). Baby is 7 months and I don't weight myself for sanity sake. My goal is to be a small size 8 before the summer ends (so I can fit in my shorts again) .

It's so personal.
1st baby - 3 months
2nd baby - 6 months
3rd baby - 2 years and counting

Only 1 baby-3 weeks, most of it down to genetics. Every time I wanted a cake I had an apple,it helped

With my first it took me almost 7 years!!

DC is 5 months here and if anything I'm a bit heavier than immediately post- birth. Scared to diet in case it impacts milk supply, plus the Breastfeeding Appetite is a beast.

I was wondering why the weight wasn't falling off like everyone promised me it would and found a research paper that compared rates of post partum weight loss in bf and ff mothers. It found no significant differences between the groups, most women taking around a year to lose the baby weight.

I think it varies so much it's impossible to say. I gained 4 stones in pregnancy, lost a big chunk of it when she was born and then most of the rest during the first few months - I think that was just down to luck/genes. There were a final few pounds that I didn't lose until I finished breastfeeding her, and she breastfed until age 3 so it was a long time! I didn't actively try to lose the weight though. I guess I'd have lost the last pounds faster if I had tried.

I think luck plays a small part! I put on 2 stone also but was back in size 4 jeans in 11 days.

My pelvic floor on the other hand...

Xiaoxiong · 28/05/2020 20:45

Agree re: luck. I had 2 sections, no tears, prolapse, pelvic floor is fine but the 2 stone of baby weight is still here 8 years on and stomach still like a wrinkly jelly even though I can do core exercises like a champion. Friend put on a similar amount of weight, pinged straight back weight-wise after both her kids, but has had all sorts of other physical issues and her core is so much weaker than mine despite her stomach being flatter and she gets bad back pain.

Everyone is different - there is no right timeline.

One year - I was helped along by a stomach bug and the pressure after having bought a fairly expensive dress that was to small for me for a friends wedding.
