Studentbeans and Apple

I 'need' to buy a new macbook and searching online, it seems that anyone with a student beans account account can get around £100 off (every little helps!)

If I were to ask someone with an account, is it merely a case of them giving me a discount code to use on the apple website during checkout or is the only way to get the discount to process the entire order through the student beans site?

Is that separate from the usual student discount? Apple give between about 7-20% off on things to students. I had my nephew price up a new MacBook Pro for me the other day... still over £2k so nope!

I think to get the usual student discount you need to purchase using your educational institute email address. I'm not sure whether student beans operates in the same way, although i do recall reading posts in here from people asking for discount codes for other retailers from people who use SB so I'm hoping the same applies when purchasing from Apple.
