Shiny new thread for anyone shielding.

You can vent/moan/cry/chat/lurk whatever you need.

@AuntieSocia1 if you're happy to list me twice then that's fine with me. It will probably be useful because I'm a bit rubbish about remembering to name change (my intention is to use this name for medical-type posts and the other one for more lighthearted things, but I suppose it doesn't matter really).

Purpleorange1 · 30/05/2020 20:19

Thanks auntie social, you are a legend for doing that roll call!! I've spent most of today in bed as the warm weather doesn't help my lupus. I think the stress of the uncertainty for those of us sheilding has also got to me.
Everyone I know is planning get togethers and bbq's yet here I am still sheilding. I think I might start going out for a walk in the evenings just for my sanity. I'm missing my pre lockdown life 😢

FuzzyPuffling · 30/05/2020 20:40

Purpleorange another lupie! Waves in solidarity.

TheHobbitMum · 30/05/2020 21:06

Wow, @AuntieSocia1 you are a legend for that roll call! Today I've come to realise I'm miserable and hugely fatter than I've ever been (and I was fat to start this) so I really need to find the motivation to find some energy to eat better and exercise. I know I feel better doing those but it seems an impossible task at the moment Sad

Hopefully everyone is having an OK evening, heres a happy piggie to bring a smile hopefully5Smile

TheHobbitMum · 30/05/2020 21:07

Aww piggy didn't upload, I'll try again

i literally just came in to post that!

ofwarren · 30/05/2020 22:19

Where I live is the 5th worst place in the country. No way am I going out.

kirstinm · 30/05/2020 22:20

@AuntieSocia1 Thanks for the roll call, so much appreciated. :-) I've been working away on my shieldie presentation which I will give at uni in a few weeks (remotely of course). I went for a walk to the beach quite late last night and my dad came and sat in our garden today (two metres away) and we had a takeaway coffee. Both were lovely, I was a bit jumpy when we were out but not too bad and it was worth it/felt quite safe generally. I feel more myself than I have in weeks. Cases here are very very low at the moment (one case in the last ten days) but I will be keeping a close eye on the numbers for sure.

kirstinm · 30/05/2020 22:24

@TheHobbitMum I did a little online workout today and I do feel better for it. I was rubbish...I hardly managed even half of the easiest exercise options but I tried and better than nothing. The arthritis side of my autoimmune condition makes exercise tricky at the best of times but I'm going to keep trying. My boyfriend has been getting fit in lockdown and he's looking the best he has in years! Also your guinea pig is lovely, I have a very pampered house rabbit who is terrified of the garden haha!

ClientQ · 30/05/2020 22:24

I’ve just read the article again and it says the guidance (in place for 10 weeks) so maybe they’re extending but just allowing that outside time

kirstinm · 30/05/2020 22:27

@FuzzyPuffling @Purpleorange1 lupus solidarity wave! My boyfriend is super brown while I've been following the shade round the garden caked in sun cream when I've been outside. I love the sunny days and to be honest I've never really had the skin symptoms that a lot of us lupus sufferers do but best to play it safe - plus I'm very pale anyway!

ofwarren · 30/05/2020 22:28

Possibly @ClientQ
It might be useful for those who have no garden but I have a large one so will carry on doing what we were already doing.
I don't get why they are declaring this at 10pm at night?

Egghead68 · 30/05/2020 22:30

Thanks for posting that @ClientQ.

ClientQ · 30/05/2020 22:30

@ofwarren I think it's leaked. More to be announced tomorrow apparently

TheHobbitMum · 30/05/2020 22:32

@kirstinm a small workout is a start, it can only get better :) I know what you mean about arthritis, I've got RA and it's pretty hard somedays just to get out of bed let alone do a full on workout :)
I've got a bike and indoor trainer so I think I'll set it up in the garden and give that a go, it could go very wrong Grin

ofwarren · 30/05/2020 22:32

I dreading it. I am still going to stay home no matter what so I'm hoping they don't remove our priority shopping slots!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/05/2020 22:32

where i am we've had so few cases and only 2 confirmed deaths so im not too worried about the idea of going out but ill be wearing a mask and not touching anything. I mean not that i generally touch things if im on my double cructhes because i need my hands for those haha

AuntieSocia1 · 30/05/2020 22:32

I'm worried this will muddy the water and friends and family will have expectations that I'm not comfortable with until I understand personal risk. I don't want to be shielding but I do want to be safe. Don't really know what to think right now.

Something is weird about this. 10pm on a Saturday night, no science to back the decision up, it just sounds wrong. I will watch the briefing tomorrow for the scientific explanation and speak to my asthma nurse for further guidance if I’m still unsure.

ClientQ · 30/05/2020 22:33

@ofwarren the article says slots to continue Smile

Egghead68 · 30/05/2020 22:34

Although I think the prevalence of covid is still higher than when we went into lockdown so I’m not sure why it would be safe to go outside now if it wasn’t then.

I think this is just to stop us kicking up a fuss when they announce that shielding is extended for a further three months.

NervousInYorkshire · 30/05/2020 22:34

Oh that IS good! I'm lucky to have access to a shared garden, but can't use it when scary neighbour has all his mates round (apparently it's happening again tomorrow).
I'm also lucky enough to have a park a couple of minutes walk away - am I reading right that I'd be allowed to escape to there? AND meet my friend?

Blimey.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/05/2020 22:34

it does seem weird that its been publicised tonight so late on. I think at this point they are just throwing us a bone to keep us compliant really. I would think that they think a lot of us are reaching breaking point and potentially taking risks anyway so they are making ti so its 'allowed'
