Hi I a am a late addition to the party or the shielding group as I only received my letter mid May.

Although I haven’t been to work or inside any shops or buildings since a week before the lock down. I am fortunate that I can still do most of my job working PT from home.

I stayed indoors for the first two weeks but then I started to feel so awful and had such bad headaches that I started introducing going out for a walk once a day after two weeks and I feel so much better for doing so.

We are lucky in that we live in a fairly quiet rural area with some nice quiet walks from my doorstep and if I do happen to see anyone coming I distance myself by 4-6 metres. Do you think I would be ok to continue with this if I remain cautious keep to the same routes and go either early or late?

I am working PT from home and I live with DH and two teen DC.

DH is also working from home. I am dreading DD in year 10 going back to school incase she brings the virus home with her. But for the sake if her MH she is really struggling I cant stand in her way or she would make it extremely difficult if I tried to.

I have got two underlying health conditions one being a type of blood cancer on the list so fortunately I haven’t been ill for awhile and I don’t look ill (less so with the extra weight I have gained during lockdown).

AuntieSocia1 · 30/05/2020 17:00

Afternoon all, roll call as promised. I think there will be a few duplicates as I'm merging threads but more importantly if I have accidentally missed you please let me know, I did try my best to capture you but I don't 100% trust my concentration in this heat!

Welcome all new posters and stay with us shielding lurkers. Thank you to everyone who posts too making sure there is always someone around. So glad to have you all here and we have a friendly place where people just get it Thanks

Again have no idea why some people are bold and some aren't. My tech skills are woeful!!

iVampire · 30/05/2020 17:14

Thank you Auntie

What a lot of us there are. And we shall not be forgotten!

ceecee32 · 30/05/2020 17:19

That roll call must have taken you ages..

My highlight of the day seems to be being thrown out of the local covid support facebook group. I didn't get a notification, just cant find it now.

I reported a post that was offering financial help to black people only, didn't have a problem with that bit but I did object to the post saying that no 'white trash' were allowed to comment.

So it's a good job that i haven't needed their help

Egghead68 · 30/05/2020 17:21

Wow - thank you for putting that together @AuntieSocia1. There are quite a lot of us!!

rugbymummy · 30/05/2020 17:44

Wow! Auntie - thank you! There’s so many of us!
After the hardest week so far, and feeling on the verge of not being able to do this anymore (asthma flaring to add insult to injury) I had a lovely surprise today. My friends sent me a little care package with chocolates and hair stuff and a little bracelet and a card saying ‘we haven’t forgotten you. We miss you’. Sat in the garden sobbing happy tears. Virtual hugs to everyone struggling. This is the biggest emotional rollercoaster ever built, but we can do it together. 🤗

SistemaAddict · 30/05/2020 18:04

Hi, please can I join you all? I'm shielding until the 22nd July at least Sad

LockdownLucie · 30/05/2020 18:06

Please can you also add me to your next roll call. Shielding from 12th May.

morethanasong · 30/05/2020 18:31

Thanks @AuntieSocia1! I'm on your list twice because I forgot I'd name changed Blush Do you want me to pm you to tell you my other name so you can remove it for next time?

FuzzyPuffling · 30/05/2020 18:36

AuntieSocial it is strangely reassuring and pleasing to see my name on the roll call. As though I am being acknowledged in a world where we are forgotten.

I have been feeling so very sad for the past few days, I think since everyone else started getting so excited about going out and seeing people. And if I hear one more thing about a BBQ, any BBQ I may well scream.

DH and I are planning how we can sneak down to the beach and go in the sea - the cold water really helps my joint pain and I know it would do our mental health a power of good. We cannot stay shut in for more months without information - we'll go mad.

I'm sort of pleased to see there has been more about us shieldies in the media in the past few days. I hope it will kick the ass of the collective Govt into doing something of use to us. I di write to my MP and got a really patronising bollocksy reply (and then only when I sent him a snarky reminder that he hadn't replied)

Pebble21uk · 30/05/2020 18:40

Thank you @AuntieSocia1

Just caught up on the headlines from the daily briefing... it's okay everyone, horse racing is coming back!! Fucking hell... since when is this news relating to Covid?
As someone on my Twitter feed said - these briefings are for things like R values, science and facts... not for propoganda and 'good news' stories!!!

ClientQ · 30/05/2020 18:42

@FuzzyPuffling I'm at the beach right now Smile and it's blissfully quiet. Nobody within 20m of me and I didn't have to touch anything

Swishtail · 30/05/2020 18:43

Feel pretty low today, I think because other people are allowed to go BBQ with friends and I'm missing out. It seems all my neighbours have friends over. I'm really please for them, truly but least before it didn't feel so lonely because we were all in the same boat.

FuckThisWind · 30/05/2020 19:05

@AuntieSocia1 you are an absolute legend!

Thank you for these threads. And hugs to all who are struggling. I've got asthma among other conditions but today I've wondered about another new and glamorous addition to my never ending issues...

Can I ask, does anyone here have psoaritic arthritis? I was diagnosed with osteo in Feb, and am now covered in what looks like psoriasis. I'll post a pic and if anyone can help, thanks. If not, no worries I'll get on to the doc next week. God I feel like all I do is bother my GP.

FuckThisWind · 30/05/2020 19:07

Pic relating to my previous post. I feel so bloody pathetic. I'm just 49 with an 8 year old DD.

Shielding chat continues - thread 2
SistemaAddict · 30/05/2020 19:07

It's all moving forward too fast. CW and PV seem very cautious and not necessarily in agreement with the lifting of restrictions. What happened to lifting them slowly and incrementally so they would know if numbers went up what had caused the rise?

Onmyown1 · 30/05/2020 19:09

@BanKittenHeels I was just reading your thread, I had to stop. The things said were awful, really upset me.
Yes I was pleased we were mentioned in the briefing the other day, although the question wasn’t answered. Seems as if since then the shielding have been in the papers a few times.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/05/2020 19:14

There's a little bit of me (A VERY little bit) that is pleased were shielding. The beaches have been crazy round here (the police have had to put a dispersal order on one, as last night there were hordes of teenagers partying), horse racing and football are starting up again (and that's SOOOO Important, isn't it, and that little bit of me says "off you all go, at least I shall feel a bit safer"

Of course, most of me says RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH and stamps foot.

Potentialmadcatlady · 30/05/2020 19:14

Fuzzy I felt the same seeing my name on there...
I also think they are going too fast... what happened to following the science and the levels?
We are right on the sea ( like literally right on it) and we can’t go.. sooooo many people, loads of problems with police being attacked etc while trying to deal with literally hundreds of teenagers and drunken adults..thankfully my teen ( who we are shielding) is still understanding and knows it is too dangerous so he isn’t giving me a hard time..

Potentialmadcatlady · 30/05/2020 19:17

Ban... I hope you are ok? Hide that thread- they are still being nasty- let them work themselves up while you stay here safe.. hang in there.. you are not on your own..

AuntieSocia1 · 30/05/2020 19:30

@Bercows welcome, you are in good company

@LockdownLucie you are 4th name from the bottom, you have already been initiated and stuck with us now

@morethanasong happy to delete your nc but equally if you'd like to hang on to it in case you want to go back to it there is no objections from me and you can get two shoutouts so you'll definitely not lose us!

I've had such a mixed day, energy levels are much higher (for me!) so the iron has definitely kicked in but have heard neighbour children playing with grandparents and extended family. My dc were completely oblivious and no idea that anything has changed but I couldn't help feel sad for them and wonder how long this will go on for

OP posts:
AuntieSocia1 · 30/05/2020 19:31

@LockdownLucie my message to you seemed sinister without the GrinI intended to add!!! You are free to come and go as you please I promise!

OP posts:
AuntieSocia1 · 30/05/2020 19:40

@FuckThisWind sometimes I get a lot of allergy type skin flares and some people have eczema in my family but I think it's worth you asking the Dr. Get out of the mindset of bothering them! You deserve to maintain and improve your health like everyone else

Also Thank you. I don't think I've ever been called that on mn or real life Grin you've made my night

SistemaAddict · 30/05/2020 19:48

@AuntieSocia1 thank you for the warm welcome Smile
My mum wanted to know if she could come and sit in our garden now but I don't think much has changed for the over 70s has it? I explained though that I am shielded so no she can't. I see her once a week when she comes to collect her shopping. I get one delivery for both households divide it up and leave it on the step for her to collect them we have a chat from across the drive. She doesn't order enough to warrant her own delivery and it frees up a slot for someone else. We look forward to shopping delivery day a lot. Mum is 80 with high blood pressure, history of heart attack and nasty falls with major fractures. You wouldn't think so if you saw her as she looks 10 years younger, fully independent with all her faculties and not frail but she's at higher risk and has no one to look after her (because it's always me that does that) so she's listening to me and staying home except to collect her shopping. Don't get me started on what her family and friends are thinking she should be doing because it's all a fuss about nothing Angry
