I haven't been able to keep up with the thread so apologies for now just jumping in asking for advice.

Has anyone been to A&E or minor injuries for a non-covid reason? I think DS3 may have broken his foot, but I'm worried they will sit him in the waiting room with everyone else and even in the clean area that's a risk I think.

ClientQ · 06/06/2020 14:02

@10brokengreenbottles not recently but I tell them at reception I'm neutropenic and they put me in a side room, or I wait outside and reception shout me

iVampire · 06/06/2020 14:29

@MarieVanGoethem @MilesJuppIsMyBitch

Unfortunately I wasn’t fully weight-bearing yesterday so I thought I should get it checked in A&E. And I am now sporting a very fetching fracture boot. It’s not a bad break, so a few weeks rest should see it put right.

I had to wait until late afternoon (so I could get a lift from someone I know has been in strict isolation). Being seen and being x-rayed and getting the boot went really well - very fast and competent. Getting painkillers was the most cumbersome and time consuming process imaginable! I think I might drop a line to PALS about that - they must flash out 30/500 cocodamol like smarties from A&E, so why not let them dispense it? Rather than it being impossible to get from the hospital after pharmacy closes (other than by several hours wait for on-call pharmacist, or going across to the hospital based OOH GP service for a prescription to take to duty community pharmacist which could be anywhere in the borough)

There’s probably good procedural reasons, but oh my goodness it’s a bad system! (Whinge over)

10brokengreenbottles · 06/06/2020 17:36

Thanks ClientQ. We are going to have to bite the bullet and go because rest and ice haven't worked, he still can't weight bear and the bruising is coming out. Luckily he's not in too much pain.

Sorry to hear about your fracture iVampire. I hope it heals quickly.

morethanasong · 06/06/2020 20:50

@Pebble21uk I'm glad you were able to compete the survey. I've ended up going round and round on one question where it won't accept my answer and won't let me leave it blank. But yes, I'm glad that we're having the chance to be heard.

LockdownLucie · 06/06/2020 21:24

I cant keep up with the thread either or the guidance. I have asthma and blood cancer, shielding but I am largely well.
I go for a walk in a quiet area and thats it. Just seen a post on FB about masks having to be worn on public transport soon unless you have breathing difficulties. Then someone shared some WHO guidelines saying homemade masks to be worn for all where social distancing cant be done such as offices, public transport etc. Do we have to carry evidence confirming breathing difficulties? But those who are over 60, vulnerable or shielding should wear a medical grade mask. Other guidance in another Gov place I read yesterday stated that those on the shielding list wouldn’t be expected to go back to work. I also read that even a medical grade mask couldn’t prevent Corona and it was better to stay at home. Another article i read say that masks can lead other illnesses!!!
As I can work from home and am shielding hopefully I won’t need to worry about that for awhile but their is so much contradictory guidance our there!!!

Pebble21uk · 06/06/2020 23:05

@morethanasong was it the question about who lives with you? It only seemed to let me choose a single option even if I had more than one person living with me and wanted to choose more than one option. It wouldn't let me move on either - but as I only live with my wife and cat, I left the cat off it!! Grin (It's okay - they asked about pets again at a later part of the survey - phew!)

NervousInYorkshire · 06/06/2020 23:27

I did the survey - that question froze for me, but when I closed the window and reclicked the survey link on here, it took me back to that question and it worked (it's just me and the cat here)
Thanks for posting, @Pebble.

NervousInYorkshire · 06/06/2020 23:29

Oops I should have thanked @morethanasong for posting the survey.

Just went for my first weekly exercise walk at 5:45am in the local park. Passed 25 people! Thankfully all but one socially distanced. I won’t be going out at busier times.

Alakazam8 · 07/06/2020 07:21

Does anyone have an idea what might happen after 30th June. Dreading the shielding being extended. Not to give to much info but am shielding someone despite not coming under criteria- had letter, GP won’t over rule letter!

iVampire · 07/06/2020 07:42

We don’t know what’s coming Alakazam - the Wales extension is however unlikely to be out of line with what will be happening in the rest of UK, so I expect there will be an extension for all of us until August and it will be announced (perhaps via BBC after 10pm one night, as that’s apparently the appropriate way to deal with us) some time in the next week or two.

The exercise concession will I expect remain formally unchanged - for many of us a risk-assessed outing with household is good for the spirits, and for those who live alone, a bit of face to face contact with one person at >2m after 3 months, probably even more important

Egghead68 · 07/06/2020 07:51

@Alakazam8
The government are reviewing shielding week beginning 15th June but have said it’s likely to be extended. There has been some talk of a more personalised approach to risk and restrictions, taking into account age, gender, race etc as well as health conditions. Some people may also be taken out of shielding (eg the Asthma U.K. website indicates that many severe asthmatics no longer need to shield). It’s not compulsory so if the person you are shielding does not think they need to shield then they don’t have to.

Egghead68 · 07/06/2020 07:52

Hope you recover soon @ivampire!

iVampire · 07/06/2020 08:00

Thanks @Egghead68 !

It’s going to take a while to all knit back together firmly, but it’s pretty much stopped hurting. I have a place in the London Marathon, which has not been called off from its postponed date (yet - decision point is next week).

So I’m already trying to work out a new training plan, allowing for a 6 week lay-off and then about 12 weeks to get fit. All time goals will have to be abandoned and just ‘get round’ as plan

But I think there’s little chance of it happening - 40,000 runners on closed roads across central London? All the staff and emergency service input needed to run an event like that safely?

I bought ‘VLM 2020’ souvenir kit as I thought it might be an interesting souvenir of the race no-one ever ran!

Egghead68 · 07/06/2020 08:09

October risks being bang in the middle of a second peak so my money would be on its being cancelled Sad. Would be so frustrating for everyone who’s done all that training though and such a shame for all the charities.

morethanasong · 07/06/2020 08:16

@Pebble21uk it was that question - I have a dh and dc (and a pet!) so I'll have to choose between them by the sounds of it....! Thank you for the tip. I'll give it another go. @NervousInYorkshire you're welcome!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 07/06/2020 08:24

sorry i wasnt checking in yesterday, i just adopted a dog and brought him home yesterday :) hes 10 months old small breed. no accidents over night, hes lovely :)

FuzzyPuffling · 07/06/2020 08:49

Dog adoption is great news one night. Tell more please ( or even a picture?)
I did the survey too and also had issues with the same question. In the end I left it blank and moved on.

Alakazam8 · 07/06/2020 10:29

Thanks for replies- good to know that government are reviewing. Due to circumstances I’m unable to just ignore but don’t meet criteria so seems so pointless. Dreading if it gets extended and the damage it will cause. Wouldn’t mind if it was necessary....

10brokengreenbottles · 07/06/2020 13:02

I can't see shielding not being extended in some form. There might be further slight relaxations, but I don't think it will end on 30th June.

DS3 has fractured his foot. A&E were brilliant. He was taken straight to x-ray from triage and then treated.

Egghead68 · 07/06/2020 18:40

Picture please @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack

Seems to be a bad time for fractures on here. Hope your DS mends soon @10brokengreenbottles

DragonTrainedByLucy · 07/06/2020 20:26

New Dog Photo please.

Need to go back and reread to catch up.

To everyone with fractures - I hope you heal soon!
