Sprained or broken ankle?

Hi I hope I've just sprained my ankle but could it be broken? I fell over in the garden today high slope. My left ankle turned right and I heard a popping/crunching sound. Luckily I have a boot and crutches at home as I broke the same foot last year. I can wiggle my toes. And can just about walk a meter with the boot on. Do you think I should go to A&E tomorrow or do you think its just a sprain?

I don't really want to waste their time

I'd go and get checked out/get an an xray just be sure, it's not likely to be busy in A&E or if you have a local Minor Injury Unit go there.

Should add, ankle injuries are hard to assess without physical touch/observing range of motion and pain etc, so we really can't help you work out whether it's broken. Hope it isn't though Smile

I’d say that your ankle is fragile as you broke it before, so would be better to get an x ray

Lochnessgiraffe · 27/05/2020 19:54

I know I'm actually on the waiting list to either get it pinned or replaced. Maybe best to go to A&E tomorrow then?

Go tonight.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 27/05/2020 20:06

A&E is extremely quiet right now, you’ll probably be seen and back home within an hour. Go now if you’re worried.

Destroyedpeople · 27/05/2020 20:06

Tbh you should try not to put any weight on it and get it checked asap

Mnthrowaway20202 · 27/05/2020 20:06

Is it swollen?

Wishforsnow · 27/05/2020 20:07

You should go they are really quiet and you need an xray. I don't see why you wouldn't go

Destroyedpeople · 27/05/2020 20:07

..and please don't worry about 'being a bother' you sound like my mum...Grin

We were at A&E last Monday evening for a suspected sprained wrist (which turned out to be a broken arm), we were seen and out within 90 mins. I'd go this evening.

Well I went to A&E today and have broken my fibula so now have a knee length boot. I was seen quickly and the staff were brilliant.
