What's the best spin bike alternative to peloton?

So we were going to order a Peloton then I bottled it because of the cost. I'm keen to get a spin bike (if I can, they're like gold dust) that I can use with the Peloton app.
Does anyone do the same? What's your set up? What bike do you have?
I'm looking for the best cost effective alternative that can take heavy use.
Thank you!

We use Zwift instead of Peloton as it's more cost effective for us. We just put our normal road bikes onto a turbo trainer, run Zwift through the laptop and then pedal.
The kids have an account each as well (free for Under 16s) and use their road bikes on my turbo so nice and interchangeable.
Tons of workouts and programs or just go for a ride on a huge variety of routes.

Another option is a Watt Bike...but they are quite pricey.

We use Zwift too. Bonus is you have a bike you can actually go outside on, plus its quite immersive so is good fun

Interesting I hadn't considered that, I wonder how the cost of the bike and the turbo trainer stacks up against buying an actual spin bike.
I'll check out Zwift thanks

I saw Watt Bike, but I was hoping to find something under the 1k mark, The peloton and watt bike look incredible but it's such an outlay.

I've got a Schwinn IC8- £1000 from fitness superstore- think they're currently in stock. I use it with the peloton app which is £12.99 a month (it's nearly £40 a month if you have a peloton bike?!)
I use a heart monitor & link that & my bike up to an app called Kinetic & this gives me the same metrics as the peloton bike for less than half the price.
I am addicted to it! The classes are great & the whole set up is fantastic.

There is a FB group called Peloton Digital App Users if you want more info, or PM me.

Aberforthsgoat · 27/05/2020 15:39

Thanks @jesushchristonabike I might PM you actually. I'm keen to do just that - emulate a similar set up but not for the eye watering cost. I wouldn't mind but the subscription and accessories on top is a lot.

@Aberforthsgoat - DH has a thing where you take the back wheel of your bicycle and fit this thing on - Think it is called Wahoo but pretty sure less than £1000 by a long chalk - also phone apps to do racing or just exercise. If interesting I will ask him if Pelaton app works with his thing or if you are interested ask & I will get the actual bicycle & phone app things

CMOTDibbler · 27/05/2020 15:50

You could get a bike and a smart trainer for under £1k - any second hand road bike that fitted you could go on it but even a new Decathlon bike would be £250, and you can get a good smart trainer for around £500. Then a monthly subscription.

Aberforthsgoat · 27/05/2020 16:31

thanks all, I'm looking at this now.
I don't think I would actually get out and about much on a road bike as have a baby DS at the moment, but I'm sure I will eventually so it might potentially be more of an investment.

I'm leaning towards this option now, but out of interest, anyone who has a stationery at home spin bike, what have you got?

We got a turbo trainer right at the start of the lock down but seem to be very hard to come by now. Peloton is very expensive. Zwift looks far better.

Aberforthsgoat · 27/05/2020 17:06

yes i think i may have to get a spinning bike

Aaand I still can't decide on a model.

I know I sound evangelical but I really can't fault the Schwinn IC8. I had a ICPro prior to this one but it wasn't anything close to the IC8.

Aberforthsgoat · 28/05/2020 14:12

Does it have a tablet holder?
It looked like it could hold a phone but not a tablet?

OP posts:
JesusHChristOnABike · 28/05/2020 15:55

Yes, tablet holder. I use an iPad mini with it but could easily hold an iPad Pro or similar size tablet

Aberforthsgoat · 28/05/2020 17:10

Thank you!
