The video of the man who was killed in America by the police officer's has just come up on my Facebook news feed. I couldn't watch all of it and had to hide it as it was just so upsetting to watch. Fucking disturbing actually. You can see the officer putting pressure on his neck while looking right down at him as he is literally suffocating to death. It's murder surely?! It was almost as if he was enjoying it. Sad Please tell me charges are going to be pressed against these police officer's. I keep thinking about it getting upset that these men are going to get away with it.

Yes. It is murder. State sanctioned.

Microwaveoven · 27/05/2020 13:12

Welm they have been sacked but that doesn't sound enough to me. Yes I thinks it murder. From the information that I know so far. Its disturbing behaviour from 'an officer of the law'

MyNameIsJane · 27/05/2020 13:15

It’s the continuation of the police officers actions after the public are saying quite clearly that he wasn’t breathing and the officer standing between them and the crowd. You wouldn’t treat an animal in the way he was treated. Horrific.

Soubriquet · 27/05/2020 13:16

Yeah. It’s murder

America shows its colours again...

Microwaveoven · 27/05/2020 13:17

Just watched the video as I had only read about it. It was awful. Kind of wish I hadn't now. But gosh. There will be up roar hopefully. No one will stand back and let this settle with no consequences surely?

Nymeriastark1 · 27/05/2020 13:23

@microwaveoven i heard they have been sacked and I agree it's not good enough. I wish I never saw it either it's going to be stuck in my head for a long time. Sad
@mynamesjane it seems common for police officer over there to treat people like this. It isn't an isolated incident unfortunately.
@soubriquet I know, I reading a thread just yesterday about the U.S, and reasons why people wouldn't want to live there, the police force being one of them. It does seem A very backwards place compared to the UK. Not that I'm saying racism doesn't occur in the UK, it definitely does but not to the extent of the U.S.

It’s awful. Truly awful. There’s another angle that shows that as well as the policeman kneeling on his neck, there’s also another kneeling on his back (crushing his lungs) and one more on his legs. George Floyd was unarmed. He was pulled over for resembling a man suspected of forgery.

Fucking forgery

These “policemen” are criminals.

There was the man who was shot by the two white men because of mistaken identity. Took months before action happened.

There was the man threatened by the woman in New York part trending on twitter.

It is endemic, and happening all the time.

DrDavidBanner · 27/05/2020 13:39

Yes it is. I'd don't know what's going on over there, its terrifyingly, there'll always be a bad apple but the racism seems to be institutionalised.

Has it gotten worse over there or is it just being reported more?

After watching the Netflix episode about Amadou Diallo and of course Rodney King, I don't hold out much hope for this officer getting justice.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/05/2020 13:39

His name was George Floyd and he was murdered by the police for the "crime" of being black.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 27/05/2020 13:45

Absolutely fucking horrific. Yes it's murder. I think he died there and then, not in the hospital. Four revolting racist murderers. They all need to be arrested and jailed. They don't do too well in prison so I hope they get what they truly deserve. Cunts.

Nymeriastark1 · 27/05/2020 13:50

It's pretty clear in these cases the reason they're are doing it to them. Whether it be mistaken identity or something else. Its because they're black. And the person committing the crime is a racist. @drdavidbanner I think maybe a reason these cases seem to be happening more frequently and being reported more is because of social media. You can't hide anymore because of it. 20 odd years ago it could of been covered up because they wouldn't of been video evidence just the word of witnesses. But now all it takes is for someone to get their phone out and it will be all over the internet within minutes. Social media plays a huge part in theses cases now. For the good I hope.

That poor man, murdered in such a barbaric way. It's utterly horrific...and then you remember that this isn't a one off incident but it is something that the black community in the US are experiencing on a shockingly frequent basis. People of all colours and races need to start standing together and breaking down the system that is allowing this to happen.

Sparklfairy · 27/05/2020 13:54

Has it gotten worse over there or is it just being reported more?

I think the more it is captured and shared like this incident, the more it will be captured and shared. It's only in very recent years that decent camera phones and social media have allowed this filthy underbelly to be revealed. With one breath the US condemn the lynchings of the past, slavery and the KKK, and the next an officer of the law can kill someone without seemingly no care that he in on camera in a routine traffic stop.

Sadly, I think change will be slow. It's too late for this man, countless before him and no doubt many more Sad

Veterinari · 27/05/2020 13:57

Google the death of Freddie Gray in 2015

Police officers have been murdering black people in America for yearsSad

Charley50 · 27/05/2020 14:08

Definitely murder. Horrific.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/05/2020 14:16

It's chilling to watch.

The smirk on the face of the officer kneeling on his neck is horrific.

The crowd pleading with them to check his pulse.

Another member of the crowd rightly pointing out they could have had him cuffed and in the car in less time than they were crushing him.

It's absolutely murder - not even manslaughter as they were told time and again by witnesses that he was struggling to breathe, bleeding from his nose and finally losing consciousness.

JudyCoolibar · 27/05/2020 14:52

Yes, it's long drawn-out, coldblooded murder. I didn't realise there was someone else kneeling on his back - presumably at the same time as they were yelling at him to get up and get in the car. The arrogant attitude of the standing policeman is also very disturbing, as is the fact that it apparently doesn't bother them that they are being filmed.

I don't understand why each of these thugs hasn't been arrested and kept in custody.

DrDavidBanner · 27/05/2020 14:54

Ugh, its chilling. Oh to be black in America, I wouldn't dare leave the house.

Rest in peace George Floyd, you life mattered.

MoltenLasagne · 27/05/2020 15:01

The FBI have been warning of white supremacists infiltrating the police for decades. It's not just institutional racism that overlooks the impact on black pepple, it is racists intentionally getting into a position of power over people to get away with murder.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 27/05/2020 15:04

There's a photo online of the policeman kneeling on George Floyd's neck in civvies wearing a hat with "make white great again" across the front.
How was he be allowed to serve when that is in the public domain?
Freedom of speech I guess Angry
There is also footage of protestors being heavily sprayed with mace whilst doing nothing wrong.

Opoly54 · 27/05/2020 15:08

It’s absolutely horrific, the way the officer is looking straight at the camera as he continues to crush his neck, the poor man calling out for his mama (who is deceased) and pleading for his life and the moment he passes away. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen. 46 years old, driving your car unarmed one minute, dead at the hands of police officers the next.

LastTrainEast · 27/05/2020 15:09

In the UK we just call that a health and safety violation and make a note to increase training. The US do it more often than us though.

it seems like all police over time become part of the problem. They become just another gang.

KenAdams · 27/05/2020 15:15

The bit I can't get out of my head is the member of the public telling the police George's nose was bleeding and the officer not even flinching. How cold do you have to be?
