Why do broken bones ache/hurt more at night?

It hurts when I first wake up but the ache goes away after a while.

Then at this time in the evening it starts aching like mad and I’m in agony. I’ve actually been pain free most of the day!

It’s my fibula, just a stress fracture. I am weight bearing on it but not that much.

Don’t know if there’s a medical reason but I wonder if it’s because there is less to distract you from thinking about the pain? Hope it’s feeling better for you soon!

ah, broken bones suck. I hope you feel better soon!

my unscientific theory is that during night we move unconciously whilst when awake we take care not to move much.

The not being distracted by other stuff makes sense. Guess I just notice it more. And yes, maybe I’m jiggling it more at night. Thanks.
