What magazines do teenage girls read now?

There seems to be no modern equivalent of things like Jackie. I was looking for something for DD earlier when I got DS the Beano but it just seems to leap from childish to adult without the middle ground.

DD is 14.

Can we have a(nother ) thread about 90s/00s teen and women's mags??

itssquidstella · 26/05/2020 22:13

I started with Shout at 11 or 12, then moved on to Sugar and Bliss when I was 13/14. More felt a bit grown up but by the time I was old enough for it, I'd outgrown teen magazines! Sugar and Bliss had the best free gifts - so many shimmery pink lipsticks!

Holothane · 26/05/2020 22:24

For me it was blue jeans, my guy. J17 for a couple of years.

They don’t. My DD will read my Vogue occasionally, and she nabbed a couple of Grazias earlier, but I think just to cut up for a collage.

I loved magazines as a teen, still do in fact. All I wanted to do was write for them.

FlamingoAndJohn · 26/05/2020 22:29

I was talking about Just 17 the other day.
Looking back it took a really responsible view to sex and teen pregnancy.

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/05/2020 22:30

Instagram ! 😝

DaphneFanshaw · 26/05/2020 22:37

Aww, I remember giggling over position of the fortnight with my friends.
More was certainly an eye opener for us.

Soph88888 · 26/05/2020 22:37

Cosmo, grazia, heat, etc

FuckKnowsMate · 26/05/2020 22:47

Oh my god, More magazine and position of the fortnight!! I ripped them all out and basically made my own karma sutra with all the pages. I still have it in fact hahaha!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/05/2020 22:50

I loved Sugar!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/05/2020 22:52

Reading The problem pages as an adult is hilarious. 'My best friend kissed the boy I fancy' was completely the end of the world at 13!

InglouriousBasterd · 26/05/2020 22:55

Loved sugar and bliss. They had such awesome tips and we’re the highlight of my Saturday as a teen!

DaphneFanshaw · 26/05/2020 23:04

Ha ha Fuck, hope it’s ok to call you Fuck Grin.
I wish I’d kept them.
I remember More having really saucy stories too, it all seemed so grown up and risqué at the time.

Romeooo · 26/05/2020 23:09

I'm very old and in my day it was Jackie, Blue Jeans, Oh Boy and My Guy.

sociallydistained · 26/05/2020 23:32

Not only J17, Bliss etc where I got all my sex and period info lol... but I LOVED Top of the Pops, Big, Smash Hits. All the music mags were life!!! It's a shame really, they bought so much joy!

sestras · 27/05/2020 00:05

God I remember buying shout and more magazine when I was a teenager.

WTF0ver · 27/05/2020 00:15

My mum questioned me reading Just Seventeen because she thought it was for 17 year olds and I was 15 Hmm. I loved it and many other magazines. Those were the days!

Patsypie · 27/05/2020 00:33

I remember the glorious relaunch of Nova but it didn't last long. Does anyone remember a stylish prob 18-25 mag called Etc (etcetera). I wish I'd kept them. I still have some old issues of Cosmo, Honey and 19. I love the ads too. Aaah memory lane...

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 27/05/2020 00:59

I loved Just 17. I remember one week getting a stack of blue & purple plastic bangles (the really thin ones) as a freebie and thinking I looked the bees knees (late 80s)! I also clearly remember my mum questioning if I wasn't actually too young to be reading it (c.14) as it was called Just 17 wasn't it for 17 year olds? Grin I was terrified she was going to ban me from getting it like she banned ITV and Grange Hill

makewaymakeway · 27/05/2020 01:36

I used to love More magazine!

Early teens it was sugar/bliss then when I was about 15 more magazine...it always felt a bit more grown up.

It was the 'what's in your shopping bag' pages I used to love the most where they would pick 6 people out shopping and get them to try on what they had purchased and you could see all the different styles.

I actually had about 100 copies of more magazine saved until 2017 and I sold them all for £80. I wish I kept them now!

Not really anything like that any more.

louderthan1 · 27/05/2020 10:42

Does anyone else remember Minx?? Launched in about 97 and only lasted about 5 years but it was really brilliant

ProfYaffle · 28/05/2020 11:57

Yes! I loved Minx.

dayslikethese1 · 28/05/2020 13:22

I used to read Bliss and Sugar. I think Teen Vogue still exists.

Binterested · 28/05/2020 13:43

Don’t let your teen touch Teen Vogue with a barge pole. It’s all ‘50 ways to become supercool about anal sex even if it hurts’

I loved J17 as a teenager. Teen Vogue is nothing like that Angry.
