Any thoughts on nursing homes & visiting?

Any thoughts on when nursing homes may open for visiting? I assume they'll be one of the last places to do so.. I also appreciate this is all speculation but I'm just missing my lovely Mum so so much.

I’m sorry to say I think it’ll be quite a while yet.
It’s very difficult and I’m sorry you’re missing your mum 💐
I work in a care home and there’s talk that we will have no visitors and stay on strict, essential only visits (drs etc) for the rest of this year.

BeyOnceBeyTwice · 26/05/2020 11:46

@Rainyrain I thought this might be the case 😔
Thank you. Also sincerely thank you for going into work, there must have been times when it's been very scary for you x

I think care homes will have to come up with a safe way for relatives to visit in some way before the end of the year. It's cruel to deny those in care homes visits from relatives.

HappyHammy · 26/05/2020 11:53

There was a home on the news who arranged a sort of drive thru where visitors stay in the car in the road or carpark wearing masks and the staff bought residents out in wheelchairs. Its such a difficult time.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/05/2020 11:58

I work in a care home. There has been no say on when we will open for visitors.

BeyOnceBeyTwice · 26/05/2020 12:01

The thing is that drive through's would work for some residents but definitely not for my mum or anyone else on her unit, she's late stages of Alzheimer's on the dementia unit. I go to see her for my benefit really as I don't think she has any idea I'm there. So it really is just selfish me wanting to see her but there it is. I can't imagine how they could safely let people visit.

They are allowing outside distanced visits at dgp's home, but only the non dementia imates who can understand to stay apart.

ClassicCola · 26/05/2020 12:08

I've heard that some are allowing outside distance visiting.

Rainyrain · 26/05/2020 12:39

All of our residents have dementia. Some families come and say hello at the windows And we facilitate FaceTime etc but that really wouldn’t work for all residents.
There really isn’t a safe way to allow visitors unfortunately.
