BBQ Grinch?

I think I’m the only person in England who hates bbq’s!?
Is there anyone actually out there that feels the same?

I hate the prepping of it, then faffing from kitchen to garden etc then to top it all off you’ve got to clean out the bloody thing when there’s a perfectly acceptable double oven and grill indoors Shock
Dp called me a bbq grinch Grin

He can do it, then.

DartmoorChef · 25/05/2020 18:39

You are not alone. I don't even like bbq food either. 😂

RandomMess · 25/05/2020 18:43

I don't really get it either Confused

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 25/05/2020 18:50

I hate them because I'm quite phobic about getting sick and don't trust people's hygiene and cooking standards! If I go to one I pretend to have a burger but just eat the cheese and bread to be polite.

I8toys · 25/05/2020 18:53

Agree. Too much faff and all the extra calories that you consume with your either partly cooked or charcoaled chicken leg. They always smell nice when someone else is cooking them though.

maresydoats · 25/05/2020 18:56

I thought it was only men who cooked BBQs. LOL

Anyway I dislike them too. Far easier to put bits and bobs in the oven and serve it all outside. But with my cynical hat on BBQs appear to me to be a performance for the boy chefs!

Hedgesfullofbirds · 25/05/2020 18:59

You are not alone OP - warm salad, tepid meat, bread which goes stale quickly outside, being pestered by flies, horrid smoke everywhere, too much faff and, yes, food poisoning risks too high - I speak from experience as I caught salmonella after attending one once, nearly died, was off work for six weeks recovering and was too unwell to attend my sister's wedding.

Al fresco dining is grossly over rated in my view. My heart sinks when I have to attend one

Gohackyourself · 25/05/2020 19:01

Oh definitely- my dp cooks no meals ever but suddenly likes to bbq in summerAngry
Doesn’t like the fact I normally oven cook the meat first either Grin it’s all bullshit.
Who can consume all that meat too?!

I can't eat onion so I either starve or risk the chicken 😬

mbosnz · 25/05/2020 19:05

We're doing paella on the bbq tonight. Absolutely gorgeous. But then again, DH is a pretty good maestro on the bbq. (Also in the kitchen).

MummyDummyNow · 25/05/2020 19:06

I have found my people! Grin

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 25/05/2020 19:08

As a vegetarian, I usually get away with cooking my food in the over to ‘avoid contamination’. DH gets his blackened meat and I get my perfectly cooked quorn. Everyone’s happy!

Gohackyourself · 25/05/2020 19:22

Well at least I’m not the only grinch then... that has cheered me up

I always feel socially awkwardly at bbqs too. Do i take my food and hand it to the host?
Do i eat other peoples food?
Do i cook my own food and then do i offer it out..

I love fish, prawns, fillet steak... Not keen on burnt cheap sausages or economy burgers... So I am also a bit of a bbq snob too..

Its easier if i stay at home and use the oven and hob then take my food into the garden 😂
