If you are a Conservative voter how do you feel about Dominic Cummings apparent power over Boris Johnson?

Just that really. When scientific advisors have been sacked for flouting the rules and Boris Johnson comes out and says Dominic Cummings did nothing wrong how do you feel?

My father has been taken into hospital today – not covid related – but my mum is on her own. They have been in isolation since the beginning of lockdown. My instinct is to go and be with my mum as she is 200 miles away and alone.

I’m so relieved it’s ok to follow my instincts, or, do whatever I feel like. I was under the impression I should follow guidance that might mean I’d have to care for my child when I felt a bit peaky and wanted a nap!

@icanbewhatiwant

But what about the labour MP's that have broken rules? One went to a party recently. Kinnock went to visit his father and sat in the front garden. Another went for a picnic. Another to a funeral where more than 100 people attended. These have been ignored. I know those people didn't have symptoms but it's still things that shouldn't have been done.
These have not been ignored, they have all been reported by the media, that’s why you know about them!

But they are not such a big deal because they are not the government, they are not making the rules, and they are not talking nonsense as explanation without an apology.

@BakedCam

The legislation also doesn't give the media permission to not social distance. Anything to say about that?

Thought not.

The media are wrong not to social distance - however, that does not make Dominic Cummings right.

I am disgusted. I wish I hadn't voted Conservative. Jeremy Cornyn was so awful I couldn't vote for him.

KenDodd · 27/05/2020 20:04

Come on, nobody believes that "went for a 60 mile round trip to see if I could drive safely" nonsense.

I did think when I heard that, is he mocking us with this?

TheSultanofPingu · 28/05/2020 08:46

I imagine there will be many people who voted conservative for the first time ever in December now bitterly regret their vote. The utter contempt shown to the British public by those at the top is shameful.

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 08:47

I have gone back to loathing them again. The refusal to answer a straight question is really irritating me.

sausagerollsandwine · 28/05/2020 11:04

Nope. Haven't changed my mind.

No one I know in real life feels any differently either.

People are just aghast at the hounding, the witch hunt and the relentless' dog with a bone' attitude of the media, socially and otherwise.

There has been no mention of the 3 Labour mps breaching lockdown.

It is a witch hunt. Pure and simple.

I'm now ensuing my hard hat is firmly in place as I am going to be flamed for differing in opinion to the majority on this site...

*Disappointed in the leadership. But (probably irrationally) angry at Labour for not giving me a better alternative in time.

I consider myself a Tory at heart, but when it comes to Johnson v Starmer, I'll have to tick the labour box.

Rory Stuart is my ideal PM*

I agree completely with this. I'd say I'm a traditional floating voter....voted Conservative in December, voted Lib Dem in the previous election.

I would love nothing more than DC to resign.... I think he's odious and that one person having so much power is dangerous. A lot of Conservative MPs also want rid but for whatever reason he's got some hold over Boris. I don't think Boris is a great leader, I'd have loved Rory Stewart to win the leadership but I broadly support the direction of the government and could not have voted for Labour last year under any circumstances. I'd have been genuinely terrified with Corbyn and McDonnell leading us through this crisis.

Starmer on the other hand is a politician I've always respected and depending on policies at the time, I can easily see myself voting for Labour in the future under him.

1066vegan · 28/05/2020 12:12

I agree with the love for Rory Stewart.

I'm left of centre and could never bring myself to vote Conservative, especially after the suffering caused by their Austerity measures but I do like and respect Rory Stewart.

A government of national unity led by Stewart and Starmer would have been so much better for the country than the corrupt shower that we've got now.

I think that they would have taken heed of the warnings from Italy and acted much sooner; listened to expert advice and have a greater understanding of the advice they were given; put public health before private political interests; given clear, consistent guidance; been willing to admit to any mistakes made along the way; not tried to shift the blame and ultimately we would have had far fewer deaths.

If only.......

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 28/05/2020 13:12

I imagine there will be many people who voted conservative for the first time ever in December now bitterly regret their vote.

Many of those votes were not for the conservatives but against Corbyn, who would still be the worse option as he has been breaking the lock down himself.

Now if you voted for Boris and still thinks he is great... you are seriously blinded or are perceiving the Tories as a football team.

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 13:14

We are so much better off with a credible person as the opposition.

I welcome Starmer up, and hopefully against someone other than Johnson.

SpringSpringTime · 28/05/2020 13:49

Ah man seeing the 'witch hunt' argument does get me down. It's like no-one cares about standards of behaviour in government. Normal people have been penalised - fined actual money - for doing what DC did. Normal people have not been there to say goodbye to their loved ones; grandparents have missed out on newborns, everything. And somehow Cummins gets to do what he likes, with no consequences, because Johnson is scared of him. Dire.
