If you are a Conservative voter how do you feel about Dominic Cummings apparent power over Boris Johnson?

Just that really. When scientific advisors have been sacked for flouting the rules and Boris Johnson comes out and says Dominic Cummings did nothing wrong how do you feel?

My father has been taken into hospital today – not covid related – but my mum is on her own. They have been in isolation since the beginning of lockdown. My instinct is to go and be with my mum as she is 200 miles away and alone.

I could understand that being a reason to bring the nieces to London, not driving the child to Durham at the drop of a hat. And srsly, high fliers with a child with ASD Without a backup childcare plan Locally? Pull the other one. BTW it seems to be far right Twitter shills who put the boy’s medical record out there. If it’s true at all, which is unproven.

MarshaBradyo · 25/05/2020 21:54

1066 tbh it was a pretty low bar to move up from. Yesterday I kept laughing and felt that impotent rage thing you get when someone is lying to you.

Today Cummings’ conference made me feel less like he was together or arrogant. He sounded as if he did want to explain and then did many questions.

By the time Johnson came on afterwards I didn’t feel the need for more questions on DC so I was ok with Johnson saying let’s move on. His general tone felt more in control than it has recently.

I didn’t like feeling so annoyed but pretty much powerless so am ok with moving on now.

@SheWranglesRugRats

So you'd support transport of his nieces to London but oppose his taking one household to Durham?

Have I got that right?

BahHumPug · 25/05/2020 22:02

@BakedCam yes misunderstandings seem to be your forte.

I wonder if anyone truly believes that a 17 year old Durham dweller knew Cummings' son better than any of his other London caregivers...

percheron67 · 25/05/2020 22:02

Worried. I do hope that it is not because he knows where the bodies are buried.

@BahHumPug

No idea what you're on about. But I think it clear you've little understanding of the guidance and the law surrounding the pandemic.

Although I'm interested in what a 17-year old Durham 'dweller' is @BahHumPug

Perhaps you could explain your comment. For people in Durham. If nothing else.

strugglingwithdeciding · 25/05/2020 22:19

Didn't vote for any of them as I think they are all as bad as each other in general
But if dc is wrong and should be sacked then so should the others if it's about breaking guidance then it has to apply to all you can so oh but lobbied only sat on his dads drive , how far did he travel to do that , and he teeeted for his dads birthday but when pulled up on it said no I went to drop of essentials ??
They are both wrong and stand in high profile positions so if you want one sacked or to resign so should the other ? You can't make excuses for one over the other
I think DC should resign though as I find it more frustrating that it was kept quiet what he did and only come to light due leak to papers

BakedCam · 25/05/2020 22:24

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus

Seemingly so. I don't always get my argument right, this is clearly not the platform to have a reasonable debate without being called names.

theThreeofWeevils · 25/05/2020 22:28

Perhaps you could explain your comment. For people in Durham

Does it need explanation? Perfectly clear, and as far as I can see, not derogatory, unless 'to dwell' has accrued a new and dubious meaning.

@bakedcam a bit off topic but if (hypothetically) someone you knew had received a fine very recently, would it be worth going to Court now? Are they actually enforceable in law?

BakedCam · 25/05/2020 22:43

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus

I'm already on there. Smile .

reasonsforwaiting · 25/05/2020 22:50

strugglingwithdeciding I agree with you that both Kinnock & Cummings broke the strict early lockdown rules. Though Kinnock did apologise - I still think he should have not gone to his parents' though.

Isn't there a different set of procedures for reprimanding an elected MP (Kinnock) and an unelected Spad employee (Cummings) who break rules/laws/guidelines? Can elected MP's be sacked? Or do they resign?
Whereas a Spad can be sacked, but in this case his boss, Johnson, won't consider this; and he (Cummings) won't resign.

I think Cummings should be sacked because his breach of the rules was severe, and I found his story today rambling & unbelievable. Reminded me of the way people lie when they're confronted with evidence of their wrongdoings, and adjust their story accordingly: I only drove up once, okay twice; to see parents, okay, sister, no nieces; we self isolated and didn't go out at all, we'll okay, apart from those 2 occasions where coincidentally members of the public spotted us; I was ill and bed ridden, oh yes, there was that ambulance and hospital visit my wife & child took, and the drive I made to collect them - but that was all, honest gov..... Etc.

I felt grubby listening to all this nonsense, as if I was being taken for a mug.

You asked about voting last election: I voted Labour because I have an excellent MP, but wasn't a Corbyn fan and can see why so many folks didn't want to vote him into power. Am keen on Starmer so far, so am likely to continue voting Labour in future.

MrFaceyRomford · 25/05/2020 22:56

It makes Boris look weak.

Iflyaway · 25/05/2020 22:59

seemed rather waffly and flustered,

That's the only way I've ever seen Boris Johnson on tv....

How about this one. It gets worse.....

@kissmewherethesundontshine

I can't say. What I would do, is talk to a solicitor and see where that lands you.

Hermagsjesty · 25/05/2020 23:04

Whatever the ins and outs of his personal circumstances, that press conference did nothing to put this to bed. Maybe the opposites. It is undermining the lockdown at an incredibly fragile moment. Personally, I think it makes the government look weak that they are protecting him. Why are they squandering so much public trust over this? He should be made to apologise and resign so we can move on.

KenDodd · 25/05/2020 23:41

Frankly I care little about whether Cummings broke the law or guidelines around lockdown. The issue for me is the fact that he decided to travel the length of the country while infected with a highly contagious disease that KILLS PEOPLE because it was more convenient for him to be in Durham. Complete disregard for public safety, absolutely appalling and selfish beyond belief. He talked about how everything he did was thinking about his family, fucking selfish, selfish git. Not a single thought or word about the danger he put the public in, he did not give a single shit (and why is anyone surprised) and anyone except himself and his own family.

As I said, we should not be surprised. His contempt for the electorate is obvious, he make no secret of the fact he thinks voters are thick. He knows though we can rant and rave as much as we like and there is FA we can do about him.

KenDodd · 25/05/2020 23:43

Oh, and I'm very, very glad I've never voted for these fuckers. These lot are all down to you Tory voters.

KenDodd · 25/05/2020 23:53

Oh and if you didn't know their characters before you voted for them then DC is right, you are thick. It was fucking obvious what a shower of liars and cheats they are.
