Do you ever wonder if you’re a ghost?

I’m beginning to wonder if I even exist. I think the cat is the only one who can see me.

Do you ever find that you could make a joke, or a remark or observation and no one hears you, but if someone who was there when you said it, repeats pretty much exactly what you said, to the same group of people (ie my family), the others will laugh, or say ‘what a good idea’ or whatever.

Obviously this is lighthearted, but I’m feeling a bit invisible.

The cat has just walked past me. I don’t think he can see me either...

Yes I do wonder if I actually exist like a real person quite often.

Not in this context but when I - used to! - go out, I seem to be invisible. People constantly walk into me. No idea why. I’m 5ft 9 and have a pink parka 😁

Oh yes, even those auto self opening doors don’t open for me. Persona non grata.
I’ve had people steal my best lines in front of me etc too
It used to bother me, but I’m quite happy just listening, most people are just talking to hear themselves speak anyway, to fill more space.
I’m always more intrigued by a quieter person, because if they’re not speaking, their thinking and when they do eventually speak, it’s usually more valuable and witty.

I get exactly that on MN threads.

I’m definitely the ghost on the class WhatsApp chat. You can guarantee that whenever an comment, that is it, the end of the topic. That isn’t too bad as very few of them are real friends.

But I also get it with real friends. No one listens to what I say. I made a comment in a text s week about our building work. Friend claimed to know nothing about it. We’ve been planning it for 2 years!

Interestingly, since lockdown, I’ve had good chats with two people I was never that close to. But interestingly they’ve been more interested in me and there for me than those I would have called close friends before.

I'm a grumpy ghost who mutters "oh I'll just talk to myself then".

A few years ago, someone tried to push in front of me at an atm, stating that they hadn't seen me. I had a massive double buggy with me. Ghostly grrrrrrrrrr.
