Testing blood sugar level - a debate

Should it be 1 hour post food or two?

Just to settle a debate. Diabetes UK says 2 hours and medical advice was 1 hour.

I'd say two, but actually find my insulin (novorapid) can take longer to kick in so on occasion it's been too high after two hours and I've given myself more insulin I might then get a hypo. So I retest after another half hour to see what direction it's heading in.

It’s usually two hours.

Thanks (debate was person is testing after an hour and getting a high reading but it's fine when they do it again an hour after that! Seems a waste to test twice when you could just follow advice from diabetes UK and test once after two hours)

  • its prediabetes range when high.

Immediately before first bite of meal and 2 hours after finishing.

And hands must be washed thoroughly first!

Just as an aside, I’ve found diabetes.co.uk more helpful than Diabetes UK. Forums are v helpful.

2hrs, but my novorapid will be on board for 3hrs. Any corrections before the 3hrs would turn into a hypo.

If I had a big spike often at the 2hr mark I would look at tweeking ratios.
