Cut won’t stop bleeding..... solutions?!

Whilst shaving my legs today I’ve cut the back of my ankle. It’s about an inch above my ankle joint and about an inch long.

The bigger will not stop bleeding! It hurts/ stings but that isn’t concerning me. I’ve gone through three of the “ big” plasters ( those ones you save for the kids knees!) in about 5 hours.

I know it’s not a big problem but it’s annoying and it’s concerning me slightly.

Any suggestions?

I’ve got steri strips but it’s not deep just I slice out 🤢.

Have you got any talcum powder? I always cut myself shaving and a bit of talc usually stops it.

Spiders web would work well. Best to use one with no flies in it. Grin

Lie down and raise your foot above the level of your heart.

you need to put direct pressure on it for a good 10 mins to allow the blood to clot, then cover with a dry dressing not a plaster they keep it moist/soft
if that dont work you could get someone to steri-strip the sides together
failing that get it seen by a doc/nurse

Thank you all. I didn’t know about a dry dressing.
Not sure about the spiders web🤪

Does anyone in your family have a styptic pencil?

Saz12 · 23/05/2020 20:18

Press on it (hard) with something properly clean and non-fluffy, for about 10 mins.

It sounds like you’re not loosing that much blood- just annoying.

Mine is the same if I cut it with a razor. Have you tried the ...something stick? It is for men when they shave their face?

Morning all. Thank you for your input.

Following what some of you have said, last night I put pressure on it and sat with my feet up. I found a sealed bit oF gauze in the medicine box. It was actually two pieces from a pack the dentist gave me after an extraction.

I used one piece to put pressure on and then after I put one piece under three plasters ( to hold it in place) and so far no sleeping through.

Cut is easier to see after pressure out on and bleeding slowed. It’s an inch long and about 1cm wide. I’ve “shaved” a patch out of me lower calf 🤢.

Going to have a shower this morning then take dressing/ plasters off after.

If it’s stopped bleeding I was planning on not covering it again to get it to dry out. If anyone has a better plan can you let me know?

Thanks again all.
