Baby fund/savings

What savings did you have specifically for a baby in the months and years before trying to conceive and whilst pregnant?

What did you end up spending it on? maternity pay top up? Baby equipment? furniture for nursery? Or did you end up just putting it in savings for the child?

We had around £6k saved for when my maternity pay ran out - we also made sure we could afford expensive nursery fees full time if I needed to return to work full time

I forgot about nursery fees. Thanks @stylishmummy

We didn’t really saved specifically for the baby but when we decided to TTC we brought forward some work at the house as it was easier with two salaries.

When I fell pregnant we looked into all bills, switched providers to save monthly outgoings and put money aside each month to pay towards loss of salary as I only got the statuary pay, nothing extra.

We also made spreadsheets of items we needed to buy and shopped around/decided what was possible to get second hand.

In the end leftover money was used to pay down the mortgage.
