It’s my son’s 18th birthday next weekend. We had a huge family party planned, and a weekend trip away in June, both of which have been cancelled. I’m just gutted for him, even though I know so many people are having a really dreadful time at the moment, which makes me feel worse for feeling gutted! He has some learning mild difficulties, and although he’s very accepting, I’m just sad for him that the 18th we had planned can’t go ahead.
I’m planning to decorate the house, big cake, the family and friends are doing a video of birthday messages, and he’ll have his presents, of course...
I’m asking if anyone has some ideas of things we can do to make his lockdown birthday great...it’ll be memorable, anyway I guess!!

Thanks, I’ve already got him a little wooden box with 6 beers from around the world so I may get him that too ...😁

We had my sons 18th birthday a few weeks ago. I posted a similar thread and used some of the ideas.
Like you I felt so sorry for him having his 18th in lockdown.
We did similar to you... we started the day sat in our bedroom while he opened his presents with a slideshow of pictures of him growing up. Throughout the day he had video messages from family, I had ordered lots of decorations in the house, the cake of his choice, takeaway of his choice.
Family and friends social distancing visits at the end of the drive to drop cards and presents off... one family member made a banner and stood with it on the road. That was nice as he has it for memories now.
We bought a paper on the day to keep with his 18th cards for future years to remember this strange time.
We ended the day with video calls, a quiz and nibbles.
He then had a drink with his mates on Xbox online and they all toasted him.
Not quite how we imagined his day but he loved it all the same.
Whatever you do I'm
Sure it'll be a day he enjoys and remembers

That sound really nice...I guess we’ll be doing similar here and I imagine his takeaway of choice will be Dominoes! I’ve asked all of our family to do video messages, and hopefully he’ll still get few visits, albeit at the end of the garden...!

Our was dominoes too!
I can honestly say it was a lovely day. I spent the weeks before worrying about making it special for him.
I'm sure you'll all have a lovely day and he will appreciate what you do to make it special for him too

Thank you! It’s a far cry from the wild party he was probably hoping for 😂 but he’s a lovely lad and I hope he’ll enjoy it...and it will be a memorable one anyway!
