Will my DD keep these curls? Pic attached.

My DD is almost 4 and had lovely loose curls. Is it most likely her hair will straighten out over time? I really hope she’ll keep them but I know many kids don’t.

Do you think these ones will stay?

Has she had it cut properly before? My daughter lost her ringlets and went complete straight after getting the chop

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/05/2020 21:23

I had hair like that as a young un. I now have a frizzy mop.

CandyFlosssy · 22/05/2020 21:24

I cut around 1-2 inches off it today. I was scared as I thought that might happen but they’re still there 😬

I’m not a hairdresser, it was just a DIY lockdown haircut! Haha.

This pic is the after photo.

It look like only the ends has the wave, the rest looks pretty straight so I’d think it will get straighter. I had curly hair as a child and it still is curly now although much looser curls as I’ve got older. Mine were much tighter curls though than your daughter has, hers looks wavy rather than curly.

Nix32 · 22/05/2020 21:29

The longer it gets, the heavier it is, so it'll pull the curls straight.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/05/2020 21:31

DS has ringlets (awwww) until he was at secondary school. Now it’s a messy mop. Mine was also very curly until my 20s and now if I don’t dry it it sometimes springs into curly but it’s mostly a dry frizz.

SpringSpringTime · 22/05/2020 21:33

Oh lovely. Hair texture changes so much into teens though. My sister’s was poker straight and went curly overnight at about 14. Mine was really fine but just gets thicker and thicker.

Pommes · 22/05/2020 21:35

Gorgeous glossy thick hair.
The natural highlights are lovely.

llamaparades · 22/05/2020 21:43

My sister has similar hair to your daughter and hers is still curly at 18 i on the other hand had really curly hair as a child but the curls dropped when I was 5/6 years old and now it's just fizzy.

Herja · 22/05/2020 21:46

My hair was so curly as a young child it needed oil and afro combs, by 7 it was like your DDs OP, it's still wavy now at 29, but no more than that. I suspect that will be straight hair within 2 years - thick and swooshy though

quarantinevibes · 22/05/2020 21:50

My daughters hair was curly until her first cut. It grew out completely straight after that. Ps your dd has lovely hair Flowers

amusedbush · 22/05/2020 22:02

My hair was wavy as a child (a bit more wavy than your DD’s) and it went really curly as a teenager.

I tend to dry my hair straight now but if I use gel on wet hair and diffuse it I get proper ringlets. If I just leave it to air dry I look like Hagrid 🙄

RuffleCrow · 22/05/2020 22:05

Yes, if you get her doing Curly Girl or a variation.

H1978 · 22/05/2020 22:07

My dd(9) has frizzy curls and her hair is down to her bottom but her hair wasn’t curly until she was 8 months. She’s inherited her dad’s curly hair (but he keeps his really short) and Mil’s ringlets

Neves7 · 22/05/2020 22:09

My daughter kept hers (very similar looking) and is now 23.

SoloMummy · 22/05/2020 22:23

I'd say that given she has wavy hair, she's likely to keep that and not suddenly become straight.

CandyFlosssy · 23/05/2020 07:57

Oh I’ll look into curly girl method! Thanks ☺️

I would have thought if she has these curls at 4 she'll keep them. i hope so they are so pretty.

IncrediblySadToo · 23/05/2020 08:04

I'd say she'll keep 'those' curls until you cut them off, but not develop new ones.

I would bet 100% that your daughter's hair will go straight. Sorry. X

kaleidoscopeantebellum · 23/05/2020 08:07

My daughter is 4 too and has really curly hair I hate it. Always looks like a birds nest if I don't do something with it. When wet hair is quite long but when dry is like a curly bob, she hates it lol.

MrsJBaptiste · 23/05/2020 08:43

OP, I had wavy hair like your DD's until I was 11 and scrunched it one day when it was wet. It seemed to suddenly turn curly and since then I've had curly ringletty hair. I love it and get so many comments but it's a pain to wash, takes an hour which is why I only do it once a week!
