I’m looking for some help and advice, my son is 3 and has been having problems going to the toilet for over a year now. It started with him holding it in this resulted in some lactulose from the doctor which helped a bit then we went on to a laxative which gave him a clear out that he couldn’t control. So now basically he holds it in till after a week or 2 I need to give him laxative. Sometimes I think we’ve got somewhere he’ll just take him self away and do a poo no problem then we are back to square one! I’m at my wits end

Was he a C-section baby? My nephew was an had a thing (think it's called fecal impaction) and his Dr said that csection babies get it quite a lot. He's on regular medication for it but they're weaning him off slowly to help him get used to going by himself. Might be worth a read up?

No he wasn't. I think in the beginning it hurt when he tried to go now he's seems to have the fear of it hurting even though he's on the medication to make it soft. When he dies go he's delighted with his self and tells me it didn't hurt. Then we're back to square one .

There's another thread on here about little ones struggling to go that's full of useful advice. I'll see if I can find it and link you to it
