Have you ever successfully quit a bad habit?

I’m not talking about cigarettes or gambling which are clearly addictive, I’m talking about habits that are socially acceptable but really easy to go overboard. I’ve always had problems with wasting time watching TV / social media and I often overeat sugar. This period in lockdown has made me realise how entrenched my bad habits are and how hard it is to stop. I would love to hear some success tips And stories . I’m really shocked at how hard it’s been to make any changes for myself

I was completely and utterly addicted to Facebook and Instagram
My daily screen time was shocking
Since lockdown I've checked my social media to make sure I wasn't missing any messages a few times etc but didn't scroll
And I feel soooo much better for it!
I'm hoping I can stay off of there for good!
First few days were really strange and I kept picking up my phone and thinking I've got no reason to be holding this so put it down

I'm still on mumsnet a lot of course 😂😂

I managed to give up drinking coke cola, when I had been drinking several cans a day. I had to have hypnotherapy, but it does seem to have worked... Haven't touched it since.

Never thought of hypnotherapy!

I have had in the past a bad Diet Pepsi habit. It came and went over the years. Just 1 to 2 cans a day was causing me a problem because of the caffeine. I only gave it up when they changed the recipe.

I then got a thing about Diet coke, but because I didn't like it as much I didn't find it too hard to give up.

More recently I started to have 1 can of full fat coke a day. This was a huge problem as I gained weight and my day revolved around it and I would be fighting the urge to have more almost all the time.

I am ashamed to say that the only reason I gave it up is because i spent 2 weeks in hospital being very ill and obviously couldn't drink it in there.

@Londonlassy if I'm honest I was skeptical, but it has really worked!
