Does anyone regret leaving Sky?

I'm now paying a ridiculous £87 a month for broadband, phone and tv (no movies or sports)

Looking at something like now tv which is £8.99 per month along with virgin broadband for £26

What have you done to cut your sky bill?

Has anyone regretted leaving?

They didn’t offer us anything when we cancelled. We’d been paying for a full package for years too

They bent over backwards for us. Their final offer was half price for a year. We still cancelled.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/05/2020 12:36

Yep sky did nothing to try and keep me- been with them for 13years- I wasn’t even trying to get the cost lower just not for it to increase. They then had the audacity to try and get me back months later!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 22/05/2020 12:42

If you call them and tell them you're leaving they will offer you a much reduced price. If you stick to leaving they will continue to contact you will better offers. If you actually do leave the offers will become even cheaper.

^^This!

Trying to leave Sky is akin in ease to the bloke trying to escape in the tv show The Prisoner!

We have Netflix and Amazon prime under £20 per month then we have just gone for the the super duper fast broadband as we live in an area which only just gets broadband and it works great now. Think I am paying now about £45 per month for that. It comes with home phone but we don’t have a home phone
It adds up but it is definitely less than Sky.

Friend has Sky and she pays a fortune.
I ended up persuading her to ring up and query her bill and they reduced it straight away by about £20 per month.

queenqueenqueen · 22/05/2020 12:47

No not in the slightest. Regret being with them for so long if anything

Eeyoresstickhouse · 22/05/2020 12:51

We use Vodafone for home line and broadband and have netflix, prime and disney+. I don't regret cancelling sky, the bill was getting ridiculous.

Ulysses · 22/05/2020 12:52

We ditched it when we got a smart TV and Amazon Prime/Netflix/iplayer etc (was paying Prime for deliveries anyway). We added in NowTV as well but don't even watch that, all that often so it could probably go. We do have superfast BT broadband as well.

NewName2020 · 24/05/2020 22:58

@allflightscancelled My mum switched from Virgin to Now Broadband. They posted her the router and the switch day had been agreed in advance so that the day her Virgin contract ended, the Now broadband began.

Similar happened to us although we had to wait a day. Then we just plugged in the new router and it worked!

PorpentiaScamander · 24/05/2020 23:03

I miss the ease of everything being in one place but not enough to go back.
We have now, Netflix and amazon instead. Broadband is Vodafone.

MummytoCSJH · 24/05/2020 23:23

Nope! I was paying £65 for just the sky variety tv package and broadband, plus netflix. The signal was awful and internet always cut itself off. When I called to cancel they put through to retention team - fine - the woman literally laughed down the phone at me when I said I wasn't interested in getting into a new contract with them and said 'if you want to get a cheaper price you have to be in a contract' I said I don't want to pay less, I want my TV and internet to bloody work! Hmm Now we have Now TV sticks and pay £3.99 a month for kids channels along with netflix (and finally disney+) and just £18 for internet. For £22 it's miles better!

thisislovelyme · 24/05/2020 23:34

No regrets! We watch Netflix, Amazon & BBC iPlayer.

Magic2020 · 25/05/2020 00:44

Nope, not at all. We were paying a fortune and hardly ever using it. We have Amazon Prime anyway, and pay for occasional films we want, as well as Netflix, and when we wanted to watch Game of Thrones we paid for Now TV but a fraction of the price of Sky and we finished that with no drama when GoT finished.

Hedgehog44 · 25/05/2020 00:46

We cancelled a couple of months ago. Haven't missed it.

Allflightscancelled · 25/05/2020 09:03

@NewName2020 thank you! That does sound easy! Think I'll give it a try, Virgin has become super expensive for us
