What food do you refuse to even try because the idea of it makes you heave?

For some reason I will not try banana fritters.
Just the idea of eating them makes me go gaaaaaaah 😣

I was brought up eating a lot of offal and will happily eat lambs liver and kidneys. I don't like heart though.

There's not much I wouldn't try once. I have no curiosity to try some things eg jellied eels and black pudding but could probably bring myself to try them if necessary.

The only things I cannot imagine being prepared to eat are brains, tripe, pigs trotters and things not traditionally eaten in the UK like sheep's eyes and insects. There are also some animals I don't think I could eat either: horses, dogs, cats, rodents, small wild animals like foxes, badgers and weasels (but I can eat rabbit) primates, birds (other then poultry), whales/dolphins, insects and things like jellyfish. I am a aware that some of these are entirely illogical.

woodlandwalker · 22/05/2020 11:56

I won't try tripe or snails. I tried eel and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten - it left a nasty taste for the rest of the day. That experience made me realise that, although I am not fussy and will try most things, if I think something will be truly awful, I am right.

Snooks1971 · 22/05/2020 12:00

Lychees - someone at college said they look like sheeps eyeballs

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/05/2020 12:02

Anything from inside or dangling - liver, kidney, sweetbread, tongue ...

And beetroot. Irrational hatred as my mum used to grow and pickle it. The smell of boiling beetroot hung around the house for days and made me gag

motorcyclenumptiness · 22/05/2020 12:03

I'm vegan and there's not much in the world of plants that's comparable in disgustingness with deep-fried faces/feet/arseholes. Except maybe mock duck.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 22/05/2020 12:08

For obvious reasons escargot and oysters.

NiteFlights · 22/05/2020 12:21

Anything from inside or dangling Envy (not envy)

Agree that the world of plants is pretty safe compared to the world of once-living creatures and their products. However I really hate mushrooms and can’t get over the hatred. Maybe it’s because they’re not really a veg but a fungus.

40somethingJBJ · 22/05/2020 12:22

Oysters. They just look awful.

DullPortraits · 22/05/2020 12:22

Faggots

spookybitches · 22/05/2020 12:28

Cottage cheese. Never tried it. Can't bear the look of it

OldEvilOwl · 22/05/2020 12:32

Any seafood

Byllis · 22/05/2020 12:36

Brussel sprouts (the little x that some people cut into them makes them particularly stomach churning for some reason).

Salad cream - find the thought utterly disgusting.

Cottage cheese - once had a colleague who ate a pot of this every lunchtime. If I caught sight of it, it made me feel sick.

Porridge.

Grits - love polenta, however.

Inextremis · 22/05/2020 12:41

Eyeballs. That's the only thing I can think of. I've at least tried everything on all the previous posts , apart from insects, 'cos I've never had the opportunity. I found I dislike jellied eels, but everything else was just fine. Love urchin, and black pudding. Not that keen on tripe, but it doesn't make me heave.

On the other hand, I won't willingly eat most processed food 'cos I hate the thought of additives. Grade A food snob, I suppose, but it doesn't hurt anyone!

okiedokieme · 22/05/2020 12:46

Not keen on offal, though it's the texture I don't like. I'm pretty much up for trying anything (obviously there's foods I don't like but I have tried them)

redwoodmazza · 22/05/2020 12:52

Black pudding, sausages, burgers and mince.

ivykaty44 · 22/05/2020 13:20

littlemeitslyn Marsbars and twit look like poo logs in the loo

36degrees · 22/05/2020 13:30

Chocolate. People always tell me I just haven't tried the right kind yet but it's either claggy and ridiculously sweet or claggy and ridiculously sour so I won't be trying any of it again.

Anything with a gelatinous texture, eyeballs, cottage cheese, jellied eels, flan or blancmange-type desserts. I love an oyster though 🤷

ivykaty44 · 22/05/2020 13:45

36 agree, find galaxy bars stick in your throat as claggy, I thought that was just me. Much chocolate though is sugar and milk powder stuffs

80sMum · 22/05/2020 13:53

I would not want to eat any of these:
Witchetty grubs
Ants
Locusts
Worms
Oysters
Anything still alive and moving

ClientQ · 22/05/2020 13:53

Taramasalata

oldwhyno · 22/05/2020 13:56

Tripe and Angel Delight.

Separate or together.

JacobReesMogadishu · 22/05/2020 13:58

baked beans. Looks like sick

weepingwillow22 · 22/05/2020 13:59

Eggs and milk

lovinglavidaloca · 22/05/2020 13:59

So many things but fish is a big one. For some reason I’m happy to eat a cow that’s run around a field but a fish swimming around in the sea makes me heave. Eww.

Justasecondnow · 22/05/2020 14:01

All offal
Snails
Shellfish
Quinoa
Celery

Is that a big list or am I normal-ish!
