If you are a SAHM it is an easier decision to make re staying home. If you work then you are in a different position.

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 19:00

Ah that is lovely weeds, they may have been on tenterhooks when you knocked on the door Grin

TheGreatWave · 22/05/2020 19:04

Bog My ds calls dd2 a lot worse than that, I can't wait till he starts his school place after half term.

Going to Tesco shortly, hoping the winds will be putting lots of people off.

Dowser · 22/05/2020 19:04

Anyone who has vulnerable parents living at home as a couple or alone have you thought about a camera in key areas
Obviously not bathroom or bedroom
My cousin just rang to say she looked at her mums camera and there’s a man in the house
Called the police but he’d fled.
If she hadn’t had the camera 😱😱😱

Dowser · 22/05/2020 19:06

Would’ve been credence Clearwater revival tonight and lindisfarne tomorrow night
Sobs

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 19:07

Dowser no way would I do that.

How did he get in?

Justasking111 nah, we have all been quietly subversive and swapping baked goods and chatting over the fences from the start.
The husband proceeded to immediately hop in his car, with a cheery "off to get some brie to go with them, lucky I haven't drunk anything yet".

TheLastSaola · 22/05/2020 19:14

I don't know why tbh.

I agree it's worrying that the most vulnerable areas might have lower take up rates. We'll see though.

Most mums I know have been wfh the whole time - very little furloughing. So it might be a practical reaction.

There's quite a few maths graduates as well - so possible mathematical literacy helps in the decision making.

Two of my favourite bands. No wonder you're raging!

MinesaPinot · 22/05/2020 19:17

I’m just watching the One Show and seen a little lad from Barnsley who won the kids Virtual Chelsea Flower Show section. It made me cry! It was so lovely because he said he loved his gardening after his home schooling. He was adorable. Sorry I’m such a softy 😀

Dowser · 22/05/2020 19:23

Kicked the door in lilac
My 94 year old aunt with dementia was in the lounge
He’s made off with her jewellery
The bastard!

Dowser · 22/05/2020 19:26

I know cardigans..was so looking forward to this
This is the third thing we’ve missed now ( dowsing weekend in Avebury, holiday in Dorset and wales and now this)
All of this were more than three week lockdown to flatten the curve

LizzyButton · 22/05/2020 19:27

Went for a 40 minute walk with sprogette in the sun and wind before tea. Not a soul to be seen apart from the child on the trampoline who I have never NOT seen on the trampoline in recent weeks. More traffic on the roads but not the pre Bank holiday traffic there would be for people coming down to holiday places.

S asked when she's going to school. Inside I said to myself "don't make me laugh, you're in Year 5". I just responded with a "we'll see".

Willitneverend · 22/05/2020 19:35

I posted one of the more positive articles upthread last night. I had a friend post quite a dementor-y comment underneath it. I just ignored her. She then came back on my FB 24 hours later to post a link to an even more doom-mongering article about how there's no natural immunity and we're all going to die or some bollocks. I've just deleted her comments and her...

I am so bored I'm sitting re-typing my phonetics notes. I am so bored I'm likely to sit and learn the fucking IPA chart again soon.

News full of DON'T GO TO SKEGGY! hysteria. I have no urge to go to Skeggy.

Willitneverend · 22/05/2020 19:42

@RhymingRabbit3 I feel so sorry for your hot food van vendor. If one of the naice hot food vans that operate in these parks did deliveries I'd be delighted.

fartingsparkles · 22/05/2020 19:46

We had our 1st murderous takeaway last night (I found out our chippy had reopened!). It was fab! I might have redeemed myself as I did go to the supermarket today but only for click and collect. We drove back 'the long way' along our prom, which was very quiet - probably because any brave souls trying a walk virtually got blown over!!

Ds's are happy to have kids back judging from the email we received, although they are taking them back on a staggered basis (more so they can get to grips with it I think). Ds is not in any of the returning years, and is probably bottom of the pile. He is fine mostly, but could really do with some other company/stimulation than me and his toddler sibling. Poor kid has already lost his dad. He's a lovely, resilient little dude and needs to play.

Willitneverend · 22/05/2020 19:46

Interestingly, the dementor on my FB comes from the North East of England. Is it particularly bad for dementoring there?

Thisdressneedspockets · 22/05/2020 19:46

Gardening is home schooling! Its so sad that people consider only academic learning as valuable learning.

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 19:46

Dowser that is awful, will your aunt be aware of the theft do you think? Did you get clear footage of the robber?

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 19:48

When OH was at school there was a lesson called "Double digging" fondly by the boys, the teacher taught the boys gardening. One of those boys very dyslexic it turned out grew up started his own business and is now the top landscaper in the area.

MinesaPinot · 22/05/2020 19:51

I was so overcome DH has gone up the road to get a non-essential murderous Chinese takeaway.

Nihiloxica · 22/05/2020 19:53

Gardening is home schooling!

Gardening is amazing for kids. It teaches them so much.

My grandmother was a consumate gardener. She was properly expert. We'd watch Gardener's World together (she loved watching gardening shows) and she'd be all like "well yes, you could do that, but then this might be a better approach".

Her gardens were amazing. In the 80s she made this incredible garden with flat paving stones and desert plants and grassed. Nobody had gardens like that then, but I started seeing them on gardenining shows about 20 years later.

God, I miss her. She was awesome.

Maybe I should listen to some Gardener's Questions Times when I'm feeling lockdown stressed. It's my secret pleasure. I'm a rubbish gardener (no patience) but I love listening to people talk about their plants.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/05/2020 19:54

Our entire topic this week for DD2 was ‘in the garden’. Her teacher even posted them all some seeds to plant!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/05/2020 19:58

To any of you with kids 7 or under at home and it’s all got a bit too much contact your HV.

My DH and I hit a complete low on Tuesday and I have HV a call, she’s put some stuff in motion and today we found out all 3 will be in nursery now starting next week.

The sobbing and thank yous to HV and the nursery for pulling it all together so fast are the rawest outpouring of emotion I’ve had in many a few months.

To everyone with no chance of childcare and with age 7 and under, please make the call. Be raw, be honest and don’t be proud. Good things can happen.
