Would you sell a story for £££

Something weird happened this morning with OH and a A list celeb it’s quite funny and unusual. I wrote to the papers and they have offered us 1k if we give them permission to use our story and the evidence. I think it’s slightly cringe but the money would come in handy right about now!

Would you do it?

If you are going to throw someone under a bus, I'd want more than £1000 to do it. You need to haggle with them...

Generally, no I wouldn't though. Perhaps because I used to be in the celeb industry myself I think celebrities are entitled to their privacy.

I sat on some very, very juicy gossip on an A list celebrity. When he wrote his autobiography (20 years later) he wrote about it himself. At the time it really would have ruined him.

Carer589 · 21/05/2020 12:52

If it shows the celebrity in a positive light, maybe. If it would embarrass them, definitely not.

inwood · 21/05/2020 12:52

No I wouldn't. I wouldn't have the mindset to write to the paper in the first place unless it was something that needed to be exposed.

IsntThatYourThirdPlate · 21/05/2020 12:54

It’s nothing horrible! It’s quite funny actually with everything that is going on at the moment. But still feels very sneaky doing something like that.

If it’s not going to do any harm then why not? £1,000 would be very nice right now

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/05/2020 12:56

Normally I wouldn't. But to be honest at this moment in time I would, as my job is at risk due to coronavirus so anything to make a bit of cash!

ComputerNikki · 21/05/2020 12:57

If the celeb wasn’t ‘on duty’ then no.

GiantKitten · 21/05/2020 12:57

It seems quite simple to me.

If you’re normally a sidebar of shame fan, go right ahead.

If not, not.

OhioOhioOhio · 21/05/2020 12:58

Hmm. Depends on the celebrity and how they 'do' being a celebrity. But I like the op that said about throwing someone under a bus for £1000.
Im skint and I'd want more than £1000 to become public property.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 21/05/2020 12:59

You need a long spoon to sup with the devil.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/05/2020 13:05

I think it's a shitty thing to do actually. I could have a made a fortune out of a celeb years ago, an absolute fortune but I didn't because it would have been wrong.

dayswithaY · 21/05/2020 13:05

£1000 wouldn't be enough for me, especially if that's their first offer.

PhilCornwall1 · 21/05/2020 13:07

No, I wouldn't do that, is nothing private anymore? I'm all for making money, but not this way!

Walnutwhipster · 21/05/2020 13:07

What possessed you to contact the media? I wouldn't do it and think it's a pretty shitty thing to do.

Isadora2007 · 21/05/2020 13:11

I sold my own story in Take A Break type magazine. But it was mine to tell and I appreciated the money at the time. They twisted it and it didn’t read like I’d told them at all- but hey, the money was mine by then.

I wouldn’t sell a celebrity story UNLESS It was something that the celebrity wouldn’t be bothered by at all.

IsntThatYourThirdPlate · 21/05/2020 13:13

I just wanted to know whether it was story worthy and what they would offer us. At first I thought nothing of it but that 1k would put us back on our feet.

IsntThatYourThirdPlate · 21/05/2020 13:14

It’s nothing bad it’s something they brought off OH but the item itself is quite funny.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/05/2020 13:24

Your first thought was to write to the papers yo see what you could get so why the change of heart?

If you weren't going to you wouldn't have even done that.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 21/05/2020 13:24

So they have bought something in a private transaction, and because it is a 'funny' item you want to share this?

Sounds like it has the potential to embarrass them. Which is not fair.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/05/2020 13:27

Thjs is a mean thing to do...really

mumdebump · 21/05/2020 13:29

Well if you ever want to sell anything again, you'll find customers harder to come by if you're prepared to sell details of what they assume are private transactions.

PatchworkElmer · 21/05/2020 13:29

I wouldn’t. I don’t think it would even have occurred to me to contact the papers. If you need the money and you’re comfortable with it though 🤷🏻‍♀️

HermanHermit · 21/05/2020 13:29

That’s appalling advertising for his business. I’d actively avoid a company that sold out its clients like that even if it was the Myleene Klass / Amanda Holden sort who notify the paps of their daily schedule to facilitate the photos

PatchworkElmer · 21/05/2020 13:30

@IsntThatYourThirdPlate I’ve just seen your update. Is this about a business transaction? If so- absolutely not.

HermanHermit · 21/05/2020 13:34

Can we guess?
Tom Cruise buying a bible
Victoria Beckham buying a grade 1 singing syllabus
Judi Dench buying a chainsaw
