When is the best time to brush teeth?

Seem silly asking this as an adult but I’ve had conflicting information from dentists and online!

Years ago a dentist told me to always brush my teeth after a meal- which I’ve always done. However recently my new dentist said to wait 2 hours after eating before brushing because you brush the sugars into the teeth.

Obviously brushing before bed is always recommended- but when do people do the morning brush? Before breakfast (but then everything tastes like toothpaste) or after (but it’s difficult to wait the 2 hours if you are then going out)?

Is there any benefit to brushing first thing in a morning, or (as my toothpaste tube says) can you brush at any point during the day as long as it’s done twice?

Before breakfast. Before bed.

I brush before breakfast and then I floss and brush before bed. I make sure I leave at least an hour of not eating before brushing in the evening.

I do before breakfast and last thing at night every day.

If I am going out in between (in the evening especially) I might do a quick brush and mouthwash before.

Before breakfast, according to my dentist:

"Get up, have a wee, brush your teeth"

After breakfast (because I'll otherwise have coffee breath ) and before bed

When I get up, but I’m up with the baby at 5.30 and don’t eat breakfast until 8.30ish.

After breakfast and before bed for me. Don’t know if that’s the right way to do things but I I have no fillings and the dentist always says my teeth are in good condition

After breakfast and before bed. I can't stand eating breakfast after I've just brushed my teeth! 🤮

Sameold2020 · 20/05/2020 21:34

My dentist said wait 30 minutes after eating or drinking.

I don't really eat breakfast, I drink coffee and have coffee before I brush in the morning unless I'm actually going to work or going out, when I'll brush as soon as I'm out of the shower. Then I brush before bed.

My dentist told me last time I went not to rinse just spit so you get the benefit of the fluoride.

Crunchymum · 20/05/2020 21:46

I dont have breakfast until much later (11am)

So I brush an hour after my first cuppa. Floss and brush before bed and maybe a clean inbetween if I'm off out or feel like I need to freshen up.

Dreeple · 20/05/2020 21:48

Best time is while you still have teeth.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 20/05/2020 21:50

I don't eat breakfast but I wouldn't dream of brushing my teeth before my first cup of tea.

I wfh now so brush my teeth sort of any time in the morning.

When I worked out of home, brushing my teeth would be the last thing I did before leaving the house, so tea, shower, dress, makeup, teeth, leave.
