Car insurance renewal

I've got the renewal through and as I usually do, I checked the comparison sites to see if it was reasonable.

It's not. Renewal is £700 comparison sites around £460.

I like the insurance company, on the odd occasion we've had to claim or ask them to deal with a third party they've been excellent and that is afterall what you have insurance for, so if it had been close ish I'd have stayed.

Anyway, I phoned to see what they could do and they couldn't budge at all, which makes me wonder what I'm missing. Why would it be so much different? I ticked every option on the comparison site too, to make sure I wasn't comparing to inferior cover.

I have to switch, don't I?

Different insurers assess risk differently. They may genuinely think they can't charge you less and still make a profit.

Or they may think they can get away with ripping you off.

The reality is loyalty doesn't pay. Switch. And there's a good chance that next year your old insurer will offer you a good price again.

But do read the small print and make sure you're comparing like with like, and also decide if you're happy paying a bit more for an insurer with a good reputation. (I don't go with the very cheapest myself.)

Direct line renewed mine. It was cheaper to take out a new policy. They matched it when I told them but I thought it was CF of them. If they can't match a quote go with the cheaper one
