...learn how to bake a decent sponge cake.

What has it only taken a global pandemic for you to learn?

Bought a bike and have ridden it almost every day since

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 19:35

Get the Kindle app (I used to be all, ‘I like the feel of a physical book in my hands so much better...’)

Subscribe to Kindle Unlimited.

👍👍👍

That I definitely made the right choice when I changed my mind and decided not to be a teacher.

I have two very bright kids that I’m homeschooling and they’re doing really, really well. I’m very proud of them and I slap a smile on my face and take several deep breaths a day.

But it is SO. BLOODY. FRUSTRATING. I would not have the patience at all to do it with a class at all!

Borrowed my MIL bike and been on bike rides with kids.

Make American pancakes
Painted the garden furniture
Sorted the downstairs cupboard out

Realise that I can work from home as efficiently as from the office;
I can actually run - following none2run (similar but more gradual than couch25k) as have more time in morning with no commute;
I'm a talented executive producer (holding and throwing random objects for teenager's tiktok videos)

That I can work from home and enjoy it

Sadly realise just how smallminded, vicious and vile some people are on social media.

But equally to see how much good there is in the world and the huge support and generosity of spirit of people.

Oly4 · 20/05/2020 19:51

Go on regular bike rides!

OverZoomed · 20/05/2020 19:52

Regularly take my preventer inhaler. Makes running much easier. Who knew? Blush

Cut men's hair with clippers to a reasonable standard.

ShimmeringIce · 20/05/2020 19:55

Talk to my dad on the phone for more than 7 seconds (both hate phonecalls, I’m soft-spoken, he’s deaf!)
Spend all day with the kids without ‘doing’ something/eating out.
Pack away the baby toys ready to charity-shop them. Can’t stand the clutter now I’m home all day Angry

Samtsirch · 20/05/2020 19:56

@meow1989
I know what you mean !
That sounds lovely 😊

Fit a sproingly thing to the skirting board in the hall so the front door doesn’t bash into the wall.

Do half a C25K

LBOCS2 · 20/05/2020 19:59

Make an espresso martini.

We've had the ingredients for ages but I've not done anything with them. Turns out I'm quite good 😁

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 20/05/2020 19:59

Get the hang of MS Teams

LadyLooLaa · 20/05/2020 20:03

suretry I’m stupidly pleased with myself. Good luck with the coffee and walnut. I’ve moved on to lemon drizzle. Not too bad so far.

raera my sewing machine has been eyeing me from the corner of my room. It’s taken a pandemic for me to dig it out from under the stairs. Not sure what fresh he’ll is going to occur to make me use it.

Make my wedding photo album, and pay off the last of the wedding and honeymoon!
Also to realise I can do my job pretty well from home.
And to make wills and sort out life/critical illness insurance. Boring but necessary I guess.

LadyLooLaa · 20/05/2020 20:09

So many really cool things that people have done. I’m feeling inspired (but I’ll probably not get round to it... just too busy Grin)

Got my four year old into baking! A longstanding ambition finally fulfilled.Grin

Florencenotflo · 20/05/2020 20:15

It's taken a pandemic to confirm what I already knew... I'd be a shit SAHM and it is soooo much easier working full time. I'm loving spending time with the kids, too young for home schooling thank fuck because it is hard enough trying to work from home and keep the kids entertained.

Work have been good and very flexible, but just keeping my 4 year old happy and entertained is draining! She's a lovely girl and has an amazing imagination, but some of the role play games she loves playing are exhausting!

I have however found my colouring book and pencils! And I've been baking more. I have also gained weight... not surprising really!

bananaskinsnomnom · 20/05/2020 20:16

I’ve learnt:

That the tops of the kitchen cupboards, fridge and tops of door way are incredibly dusty!

That it’s so much easier to find clean towels and bedding now that I’ve organised and cleared out the airing cupboard

That I spend much more than I realise on impulse buys.....normally I would go shopping for milk and end up spending £20, all those cheeky Starbucks, how much I spent getting my nails done, nipping to the shops when bored.....learnt some strong lessons the last couple of months

I’ve also mastered how to make the perfect pizza 😋😋

Florencenotflo · 20/05/2020 20:17

Fair play @twokidsstillstanding I have been baking but all Dd (4y/o) wants to do is mix things (a bit violently) and then lick the bowl 😂 then moans that things need to cool down before she can smother them in icing and sprinkles!

BlueJava · 20/05/2020 20:25

Convince my company we can all wlrk from home just as productively.

Smelborp · 20/05/2020 20:31

Bread. I can now make a really great bread.

Also discovered it’s not that I don’t have the time that stops me doing certain projects.
