Abuse for being a Supermarket worker :( (long rant)

Tonight my lovely DS2 came home from his late shift at our supermarket in an absolute state of panic.
DS2 has autism and mild learning disability but works full time now on checkouts and frankly is one of the best employees they have ever had... polite, friendly, punctual and is genuinely well loved.
His routine is to have a burger from Baba's kebab van once a week on his 5 min walk home.. he walks home with a colleague. Tonight as he waited for his burger to be cooked a random man started shouting and swearing at them, yelling that they were germ ridden and needed to get the fuck away..and kept on shouting.
DS2 was terrified..tried to say he was a lot more than 2 meters away (he would be... he is absolutely solid on his social distancing!) but the man kept screaming abuse at them. DS2 left his burger and came home in a massive state of distress.. shaking in panic (I hope his colleague was ok.. he was too distressed to know)

His sister went back out to the kebab van but Baba had just closed up. He realised that she was ds2's sister and asked if he was ok and told her the man was totally out of order and told him to fuck off and never expect to get any food from his van again. Baba likes ds2...

The irony is the man is a daily shopper at the supermarket..

I am so angry. DS2 has coped incredibly well so far. His hands are raw and cracked from washing, he ALWAYS observes social distancing, he has worked extra hours without complaining, but he is highly anxious (and medicated for it) and this will set him back hugely.

I really hope that that man gets an epic dose of diahhorea when he's stuck in motorway traffic some day...

I am so so sorry for your poor son and his colleague- I honestly think some people are completely unhinged! I would love it if the supermarket could ask that ‘gentleman’ to leave the store and be banned for life-

Tell your DS lots of people are very grateful he turns up for work and carries on - my Son in law works in small community store and it’s been relentless how stupid some people can be.

Your poor son. What a horrible man. I'd give the managers in shop a heads up on this horrible man

SpencerReidsMistress · 20/05/2020 00:44

Some people need to get a life. Sick of people thinking its OK to be abusive without consequence and yes I do hope someone lamps those ass hats one day. I hope your DS is OK OP.

Justanotherscumbag · 20/05/2020 00:54

I'm sorry your DS went through that, some people are so caught up in their own self importance that they think they can tell lesser mortals what to do.
They're fucking arseholes and hopefully one day, the tide will turn against these knobs who think they can bully and belittle anyone in a service job and they'll not get away with behaving like arseholes with no concequences.
Could he speak to the manager and tell him what happened, and that for now at least, he doesn't feel like he can serve this man in the shop. That may ease your son's anxiety a little and will make sure the arsehole waits while another member of staff is found to serve him. I don't think that's unreasonable for him to ask, and as a manager (not retail but similar) I'd certainly facilitate this.

Your poor son. I hope he can recover from this and keep doing his great job at work.

For his hands, my husband would recommend O'Keeffe's working hand cream. He puts it on when he goes to bed and his hands are so much better in the morning.

Moonshinemisses · 20/05/2020 01:18

I'm so sorry that happened to your son. There are some real twats out there and the current situation has really allowed us to easily identify them. My Eldest son also works in a supermarket and they are all working so hard to keep stock on the shelves and customers moving. Please tell your son that the majority of the public thanks him for his hard work.

BakedCam · 20/05/2020 01:24

What a horrible experience for your son, OP. I really wish for a place where people didn't behave as if the world centres around them.

All the best to your son and I hope he not too distressed. Supermarket workers have been the nations best treasures during this pandemic.

Playdonut · 20/05/2020 01:26

Oh your poor son. I hope he can understand that that man was just a bad person. I'm glad babas van have banned him. Some supermarkets let you refuse to serve abusive customers and direct them to another till but everything is probably different in these virus times. I hope ds2 is able to continue to keep being his wonderful self. He is very lucky to have a lovely mum who cares about him and will do much better in life than the cunt who abused him.

Ilovecats14 · 20/05/2020 01:29

How dare that man. I hope your son is ok. Are you going to inform his employers? Surely they can do something as your son is likely to see him again at work? Would hate for him to feel anxious or afraid if he sees him. Theres a man in our local asda who has autism I always go to his till if he's working as he is lovely and always professional. Don't let him get away with it. I am so angry for your son.

Ilovecats14 · 20/05/2020 01:34

Hopefully they can sort something out at his work. I refused to serve someone who had attacked and robbed my brother before (police were involved). Told my manager I would never serve him and they said i didn't have too. This was years ago, but I was so angry when he strolled up to me wanting help (he didn't know who I was I don't think).

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 20/05/2020 01:49

So sorry for your poor son. Also wishing him crippling diarrhoea as it's the least he deserves!

Absolutely a case of the galloping trots is just what the Doctor ordered!

Some people are getting quite hysterical about it. ..
