Do you have a lovely summer duvet?

I need a summer duvet, I want it to be all soft and floaty like a cloud but I'd prefer it not to be feathers.
It's a duvet minefield out there, any recommendations?

I got a lovely summer one from Julian Charles. Not feathers.

Dreamersandwishers · 19/05/2020 12:15

I have one as part of a set that pop together for winter - JohnLewis, but I needed a second last year and bought one from M&S. it was the cheapest they had. It’s lovely, and is light enough to go in the washing machine.

BigBirdsbird · 19/05/2020 12:53

Thank you both, will check these out

I also got a lovely one from M&S which is much better quality than my winter one. Looking forward to getting it out!

faithinnature1 · 19/05/2020 13:05

We have a John Lewis one that has a 4.5 tog and 9 tog that pop together. They are so light. Synthetic not feather. They're called soft touch or something like that

dingit · 19/05/2020 14:10

We sleep in a summer duvet nearly year round. Dh has a hissy fit when I put the winter one on 🙄

fussychica · 19/05/2020 15:52

Like faithinnature we have the JL dual duvet but to be honest our house is so warm we only ever use the 4.5 tog. The 9 hasn't been out for several years and I can't imagine putting them together. They are like clouds.

It's the other way round with us. DH sleeps under a duvet when it's 30 in the bedroom.

Flyingarcher · 19/05/2020 20:43

Silk one from Soak and Sleep with silk cover. Very light.

CrouchingTraceyHiddenLadders · 19/05/2020 20:49

Same here Flying archer. Silk one all year round for me. (,Tog rating 1 or 2.5, I'll look later)
I also sleep next to an open window, all year round.

BigBirdsbird · 21/05/2020 12:23

Thanks so much for all your responses.

One last question, am I mad to think a 7 tog duvet is a summer weight?
The idea of a 4 tog makes me a bit nervous

Troels · 21/05/2020 12:40

I have a 4.5 and use it year round. I do wear PJ's.
Dh however freezes and has a single to add on top of him, a 10 and uses it year round.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 21/05/2020 12:42

I have a lovely silk one from John Lewis. 3 tog, I put a blanket on top of it if the weather is unseasonably cold.

tentative3 · 21/05/2020 13:32

We have a summer weight wool duvet (counter intuitive I know) which we use year round and yes, we have the window open too. We do add a wool blanket on the coldest nights. I love the wool duvet and would never go back, other than to check out silk.

Dreamersandwishers · 21/05/2020 13:41

4.5 tog here in NE Scotland. I have had it on now for a month, replacing the 9.5 for winter . But then I am menopausal 😂

BigBirdsbird · 21/05/2020 13:48

I'm ashamed to say I've been on an all year round 10.5 tog for the last few years.
I think I really need to up my duvet game.

Summer weight wool one here. Much less sweaty than a normal duvet.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/05/2020 16:51

We bought the most expensive duvet we could afford. The things we looked for were

It came in 2 parts, 4 and 9 tog.
The cover was good quality
It washed easily
It was very lightweight

When it arrived we thought we'd made a mistake. The 2 together weighed less than our old 4 tog. But it is lovely and warm in winter and very cool in summer. Though we do alsohave a cotton sheet for summer and a blanket for my feet in winter.

We are currently under the sheet with the 4 tog at the bottom of the bed for that 4am temperature drop!

It has been well worth the rather eye watering price... I'm peri menopausal...

Roselilly36 · 21/05/2020 17:10

We have a John Lewis summer duvet, it is absolutely lovely, so soft & light like sleeping under a marshmallow. If that makes any sense! Can’t remember the price exactly, I am sure it wasn’t very expensive.

sluj · 21/05/2020 17:14

Silk sounds interesting . Is it very light? I am considering linen sheets too in an effort to be cool at night but I am worried they may be rough (like linen clothes) or too creased (like linen clothes).

slavetothenhs · 21/05/2020 17:31

I just bought a 1 tog Fogarty king-size duvet from Dunelm (£27). Have only just put it on the bed but it feels very nice and light and hopefully I won't sweat any more (previous duvet 4.5 tog and I sweat like a pig all year round)

Gilead · 21/05/2020 17:53

John Lewis is currently doing a hollow fibre double one for ten pounds!

BigBirdsbird · 21/05/2020 18:18

I like the look of the Fogarty Touch Of Silk duvet but out of stock right now

Sluj, linen sheets are just lovely, so comfortable

OP posts:
sluj · 21/05/2020 19:31

But are linen sheets soft and creased all the time? Would you say they are cooler Bigbirdsbird?
