I was born in 1979 and can’t believe all the events in my lifetime so far that will go down in history. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the unification of Germany , the Lockerbie bomb, hiv/aids, Live Aid, the Internet becoming big, everyone carrying a phone, the war in the former Yugoslavia, Chernobyl, the gulf wars, 9/11, the millennium, the first female Prime minister, the first black president (followed by the first orange president), the euro currency , The channel tunnel, Princess Diana’s death, covid 19....am I forgetting anything? It seems I have lived through a lot of history being made.

Well, you have been alive for a long time. The global population has gone from just over 4 billion at your birth to over 8 billion, lots of things have happened.

Your list is nowhere near complete if you take a world view or even just a non western one. Lot of things come to my mind: hurricanes, tsunamis, genocide in Rwanda, genocide in lots of other places, the Kyoto Protocol, volcanoes, Idi Amin, Fidel Castro, the horrors faced by Palestinians, Afghanistan, apartheid ending, the horrific terror attack in Indonesia in 2002, the Mumbai attacks, Osama Bin Laden, the Bhopal Union Carbide leak, the death of Nelson Mandela, many countries legalising abortion, others legalising same sex marriage, the Arab Spring, Dolly the sheep, the first few people actually being cured of HIV...the list is endless. It's both amazing and heartbreaking when you think of even just the small lists we we have come up with.

It’s been a crazy 40 years and those were just things off the top of my head. It was sparked by my mum talking about the film Hidden Figures and that’s in her lifetime there was a time where there still wasn’t equal rights if you weren’t white. It actually made me think how far we have come as a society.
