Building/construction work Scotland

Nothing ever seems to be mentioned or even hinted at regarding people returning to work in Scotland, I'm not interested in garden centres or recycling centres which seems to be mentioned a lot, just my partner and I would like to have some idea when the construction industry will be likely to go back to work so we can afford to live. We are massively struggling now and can't understand how we will get by for much longer. I do work aswell for as a PA for the NHS but only part time and my wage is low and doesn't cover all bills and mortgage. I just don't see an end to this. Any ideas anyone?

DH works In construction word on the street is the building sites will probably back on 28th May. Big housebuilders will be piling on the pressure to SG to allow them start working again

Nicola sturgeon is to make an announcement on Thursday. Its expected that some limited outdoor construction work will be permitted from early June.

okimdonenow · 18/05/2020 18:01

I do hope it's going to be within the next 2 weeks, but DP has heard a lot of rumours the past month none of which have been true. As it says 'limited outdoor construction' I don't even know if that will apply to him.

So it looks unlikely he will go back now on the 28th/beginning of June. The stress is absolutely unreal. I can't find much clarity so don't seem to be much further forward knowing when he will be able to return.

Anyone advise?

I live on a new build estate and although my phase is complete there is still plenty of houses being built on another part of the development. Obviously everything stopped in March but in the last week or so there’s definitely been people on site. Not actually building but I think they are gearing up to get going again. There’s houses that should have already been moved into so I’m pretty sure they will be going as soon as they safely can. I know that doesn’t really answer your question.

Invisimamma · 21/05/2020 21:41

I had pallets of building materials arrive on my drive today, which says to me they are looking to start the work soon (it was planned to start before lockdown).

Don't know what the official line is though.

okimdonenow · 21/05/2020 22:04

Is this in Scotland? The announcement was vague but after looking into it more it gives little detail on when these 'phases' will be likely to happen. It seems to be that it will be dragged out for ages. I think I've been really understanding and patient throughout everything that's gone on but I just feel like I'm really losing it now.

Yes - I wouldn’t have replied if it wasn’t Scotland I was referring to.

Invisimamma · 22/05/2020 18:09

Yes, Scotland. I know its difficult for everyone but we need to be cautious and avoid a second wave. Our numbers aren't dropping hugely just yet.

okimdonenow · 22/05/2020 19:43

@Invisimamma totally agree, people keep saying a second wave is inevitable but I'm really hoping it isn't.

House beside me being worked on and that is on a main road. The house is empty as the owners have moved out in the meantime. I also see contractors vans outside houses so I know some are working. I don’t know if it’s legal though.

We will hear about transport on tuesday at 2pm. It will be on the Scottish parliament channel and bbc Scotland politics live.

More details will be issued about outdoor work and building hopefully this week as I think it’s to start next Friday onwards if they can sort out physical distancing and measures to keep staff safe.

There is a Scottish government document that came out yesterday advising what’s to be expected in the phases lockdown will be reduced in, but it doesn’t have dates in as yet as things are still waiting on the R number coming down.

Hopefully we will have more freedom on 28 May but it may not be announced until that day.
