How tall are your children if you and your dh are tall?

skinnyhotchoc · 17/05/2020 13:36

Me and dh are both tall. I'm 5ft 9, dh is about 6ft 2. Currently pregnant with our first but both have children from previously relationships to relatively short people. My dd has managed to be the tallest in the class despite her dad being short. So I'm wondering if the mix of me and dh is going to produce something resembling a giant. Can I ask how tall are your children if you and your partner are tall?

I’m 5’7” and DH is 6’2”. DD1 is 5’8” and DD2 is 5’10”. When they were young, DD1 was enormous in comparison to DD2 - people assumed there were 4 years between them rather than 2. DD2 had a massive growth spurt when she was 11.

MmeCamenbert · 18/05/2020 10:59

I'm 6ft and Oh is 5ft 11, our 3 children are all tall especially our youngest, she is a giraffe and easily a head and shoulders above her classmates at school! We do live abroad though and are generally much bigger than the native children! Both of my parents were tall but I'm bigger than my sister who is only 5ft 9!

GADDay · 18/05/2020 11:03

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/05/2020 11:29

I'm just under 5'10" and DH is 6'5". Both my DSs have the potential to grow to 6'10" according to the red book! Luckily I don't think that's going to happen, DS1 is at 6'1" at 16 and I really don't think he's going to get more than another inch. DS2 (12) started off being off the red book charts and is now following a path of about 95th centile if I remember rightly. He's tall but there are plenty taller in his year.

Tiramisuiloveyou · 18/05/2020 11:36

6ft DH 6’4.

DD 15 5’11’
DS 16 6’3’ and still growing

OP either have children or don’t have children being tall is a good thing apart from you pay over the odds for DC’s clothes as they grow out of clothes quicker than their smaller and average height friends, you have less choice of clothes and have to pay for more expensive clothes as an adult. Smaller people are often jealous or envious of your height. You maybe uncomfortable on planes and public transport due to limited leg room but you can easily see over peoples heads at concerts or across a crowded room.
Also as an adult, tall people are on average likely to earn more than their peers, be often thought to be seen as more desirable by the opposite sex, get served easier and quicker at the bar, don’t have any problems reaching for things on the top shelves in shops/at home etc.

And like a previous poster has stated we can have our homes designed or adapted with higher cupboards, shelving, have more storage space in higher wardrobes etc.

missyoumuch · 18/05/2020 11:38

I’m 5ft10 DH is 6ft2. DDs are only little but they’re extremely tall for their ages already.

As a child and teen I hated being tall but as an adult I absolutely love it so hopefully they will feel the same way as they don’t have a chance ending up shorter than me Grin

ThanksItHasPockets · 18/05/2020 11:44

I’m 6’, DH 6’1”. Our DC are still growing but both are on the 98th centile for height.

Please do whatever you have to to get over your concerns about a tall daughter because you will unwittingly pass them on. It is not that unusual these days for girls to reach an adult height over 5’9”. Being tall is great.

RenegadeMrs · 18/05/2020 11:44

Early days here so not sure how useful this is but:

Me - 6ft
DH - 6ft 1
DD (just turned 3) - 3ft 7 obviously taller than her peers.

I'm also pregnant with DD2 and have been told her femur length is on the 98%. Basically I'm anticipating rasing a pair of Amazons.

My mum is 5'3'' though so a short gene may sneak in somewhere.

ComeOnGordon · 18/05/2020 11:44

I’m 5’ 9, exH is 6’ 2 or 3

Dd stopped growing at 13 - she’s 5’10
Ds1 is 6’6
Ds2 is still growing but is already 5’11

It’s so strange to be the smallest in the house when I’m a tall woman.

But I have no trouble buying clothes for the boys - next do a good extra long range as do ASOS and there’s loads of shoes online in large sizes.

steppemum · 18/05/2020 11:45

I am 5'8"
dh is 6' (just)

ds is 6'3" and we think he has stopped growing (17)
dd1 is 5'6" and looks to have stopped growing (15)
dd2 is 12 and is currently 5'6" and still hasa way to go, so will end up tall.

They were all tall as toddlers and kids, one of the tallest in class in primary etc.

ScarlettDarling · 18/05/2020 11:47

I'm 5'11" and dh is 6'2".

My ds (16) is about 6'2" and probably has a little bit of growing left to do.
My dd (13) is probably about 5'7" and miles taller than any of her friends. But I don't think she's got much growing left to do. She started puberty early and I think has had her big growth spurt.

ravenmum · 18/05/2020 11:47

Me 5'9
Exh 6'3
DS 6'5
DD 5'11

PlatinumBrunette · 18/05/2020 11:48

I’m 6’ and DH is 6’4”. Adult DD is 5’8”. So it can be pretty random. Both my parents were ‘normal’ size.

HarrietTheShy · 18/05/2020 11:50

Where are you finding these tall men?? I always get stuck with shorties.

ClientQ · 18/05/2020 11:51

My parents are the same height OP! 5ft 9 and 6ft 2. I'm 5ft 10 Smile

ravenmum · 18/05/2020 11:53

HarrietTheShy - Go in the supermarket. When you see someone else who can see you over the shelves, catch their eye.

Ouchiehelpneeded · 18/05/2020 12:02

I'm 5'11" and DH is 6'2"

Dd14 is 5'8", size 7 feet and seems to have stopped growing. She complains that she's short!
Dd10 is 5'3", size 7 feet and is shooting up. I'd be surprised is she doesn't top 6'.

Both totally awesome, obviously. Being tall is great!

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 18/05/2020 12:03

I'm 5'9" DH is 6'4" our just turned nine year old son is 1m 48cm or 4'10". He has consistently been in at least two ages above his age for clothes to get the length (but is a skinny so and so so nothing ever actually fits - his whole life has been a compromise between long enough to look half decent and small enough to not fall down. He was nine a few weeks ago and his wearing aged 11-12 trousers but aged 6-7 shorts). Joggers/tracksuit type trousers were an absolute no no until he was old enough to cope with a draw string. Usually swaps the tallest in the class position with another child who is several months older.

DinosApple · 18/05/2020 13:06

DMum 5'6"
DDad 5'10"
Dbro 6'4"

Me 5'5"
DH 6ft
DC both short to average, but not full height yet.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 18/05/2020 13:09

I also find this fascinating. I’m 5’11 with one tiny DD who is the same size as her younger, ginormous sister. I think there are smaller genetics on my dad’s side

YahBasic · 18/05/2020 13:17

DH and I are the same heights as you, OP.

DH is the shortest male in his family, his dad is the tallest at 6 ft 6.

I’d love to have tall daughters. DH family are all in Australia, where women below 30 seem way taller than the same demographic here.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 13:21

I'm almost 5'10, DH is 6'2, Adult teen DSs are 6'3 and 6'2.5. However, I am taller than my female siblings and DH us by far the tallest amongst his.

To balance this out, my sisters son is 6'4 and she's only 5'6 and her DH is 6 foot. Her daughter is 5'11. 2 of my brothers are around 5'10/5'11 and both have sons around 6'2 despite their wives being only 5 foot. The only daughter is about 5'4.

In general due to more access to food and sunshine, the younger generation in mine and DHs family are taller than the one before. In two large families, none of the children are shorter than their same sex parent.
