Hello
My almost five year old has ground down some of his top teeth . All baby teeth. They are so tiny now and it worries me a lot. He’s seen the dentist a few months ago they wouldn’t give a mouth guard. There’s zero chance of seeing the dentist again with the virus I doubt we will see one all year. Any tips to stop the grinding please ? He’s worn them a lot

I don’t know if it is allowed for children but you can get mouth guards on Amazon

As someone who wears one they should look at better options for children. When I don’t wear mine which is once in a blue moon my mouth and jaw are so painful it hurts to eat.

I will have a look thank you and see if I can arrange a phone consultation with the dentist to see if he can wear one of those

My 6 year old went through a period of this and I was tearing my hair out. The dentist was very unconcerned which I found difficult. He has now just stopped doing it as suddenly as he started. Fingers crossed for you OP.

Dentist here. It’s very common in children and nothing to worry about.
Please don’t use a mouth guard bought online. It won’t fit well and is likely to cause harm. Generally mouth guards aren’t used for children as they can be a choking hazard and also because they can act as an orthodontic appliance during growth phases.
Have you looked at the acid content of your child’s diet? Excessive tooth wear is usually caused by more than one issue eg grinding teeth and excess acid

I hope he does grow out of it like your son bobby
I’ll have a look into the acid thank you. Would that show in a teeth check ? As his teeth are in good condition other than the grinding in the top few according to his last check up.
I’ll leave the mouth guard thank you.

Its pretty common for children to grind their baby teeth down. Generally its nothing to worry about

There are several reasons why mouthgaurds arent suitable for children. Their mouths are constantly changing, its choking hazard, it can impact development.

Excess acid in the diet is shown by worn down teeth?
