Luton is a commuter town for many many professionals in London. Definitely not predominantly WC at all.

forgetmeyes - sorry I know I stand corrected in probably quite a few of the towns I've mentioned - I admit I'm still living circa 1986 ! (check out my mullet and neon accessories!!)

There is a lot more than the west end of Glasgow that is very much not working class.

RaspberryToupee · 16/05/2020 18:54

I agree with @sluj, there are mixed socio-economic areas in every town. I live near a typically well-to-do city but there is a huge amount of the city that is deprived. This largely goes ignored because ‘it’s such a nice town’. Of the towns already listed, there are certainly nice parts and not-so-nice parts but as industry has changed significantly since these towns originally grew, I don’t think whole towns can be classed as working class towns now.

MillicentMartha · 16/05/2020 18:57

Bridgend
Gloucester
Leicester

CleanIsBlissful · 16/05/2020 18:57

EL You're right! I'd go one step further to say its 'Furrock Hun' Grin

Settle59 · 16/05/2020 18:57

I agree RaspberryToupee - which is why I intended this thread to be sort of semi lighthearted in a way... things aren't clear cut. Graduates of my generation often bought houses in 'traditionally' very working class parts of cities for their first house - those parts are being gentrified etc. It's not clear cut any more
