Child who dislikes reading

Child currently year 1 doesn't really have an interest in reading. Is on orange book band so on target and is quite a good reader but he just is not interested to read to himself. He loves being read to and has good understanding when he has to read his school book etc but does often kick up a fuss as he finds it boring. I'd like to help him be able to find abit more enjoyment in it especially as he's quite able.

Any suggestions?

I think it’s all down to finding something they are interested in - DS weirdly loved reading The Guinness book of records although had no interest in chapter books.

Agree with others. It's early days yet. If he enjoys being read to, I'd focus on that, and find something he is interested in that you can read together and chat about.

All great advice there! It's not necessarily that I'm bothered he doesn't like reading just something a friend said about if they aren't interested in reading it will hold them back from exploring all other academic avenues has got me really worried. But I guess he CAN read he just doesnt find much enjoyment in it yet. I've ordered him a few of the books mentioned (we needed some new ones anyway we still have a lot that he's probably outgrown).
