If anyone reading this has sought a private diagnosis for Adult ADHD, would you please share how you approached that, and if you then latterly were taken on board by NHS for treatment without an official ‘NHS’ referral and diagnosis? Feel free to PM too.

I see symptoms in my children and have suddenly realised it’s very likely I have it, and it’s potentially affected so many things in my life. I’m now wanting to look at this quickly before I procrastinate and do nothing about it ...

Thank you

I had a private diagnosis via online consultation with psychiatry uk. I started on meds but didn't get on with them and also couldn't afford private treatment any longer so got referred to the NHS. I'm still awaiting my appointment was referred in Jan and told to expect a lengthy wait, this was pre covid so now of course it will be even longer!

Recommend psychiatry uk for a cheap way to get a diagnosis - about £350

Does this ring true for anyone, twenty million billion things going on, your head feeling like you’re going twenty million miles an hour, list upon list upon list, feeling like you look terrible if you don’t look busy, easily distracted, short working memory, not being careless so much as ‘carelessly careful.’ Like you have to make yourself stop and breathe.

Yes except I don't worry if I don't look busy :o

@sestras, there are loads of prescribing nurse consultants where I am, far more than average because we are remote and rural and very few medics, but none are approved to prescribe lisdexamfetamine or ADHD drugs to adults. If yours are, that is very unusual for the UK.

sestras · 01/06/2020 17:26

I've not had any problems having anything prescribed and it's by a prescribing nurse consultant.

Maybe areas vary? I'm in Scotland.

DC3dilemma · 01/06/2020 22:07

@sestras that’s interesting...do you mind if I ask, is that GGC or Edinburgh/Lothian?

@CloudsCanLookLikeSheep

Do you mind saying who you went to on psychiatryuk? I looked and was a bit overwhelmed by the choice

Really interesting thread. Just in case anyone else is reading this - we put off getting our daughter diagnosed. We have since found out the waiting list in our area is 2 years, by which time she will be an adult and have to start the wait all over again. I wish we had acted sooner.
