Tooth abscess antibiotics given but not root canal available, will it come back?

Two weeks ago one of my teeth died (Pre-molar) and abscessed overnight. My face was swollen one side and numb and weird.

I was given antibiotics which I took and the swelling has gone and not come back so far. I’m sg myself thought because there isn’t any treatment available. My dentist who prescribed the antibiotics said I need a root canal to solve the infection.

When I press above the tooth it still feels odd and numb.

I’m freaking out that it’s going to come back and spread to my brain. Am I being stupid. Will those antibiotics keep it away for a while?

Don't feel silly OP, dental problems can contribute to other health issues, so the sooner dentists are allowed to practise the better.

I was thinking of this thread half an hour ago. I was in the car and there were questions being asked in parliament (I don't know if it was live or not) and someone asked about dentistry and the reply from presumably Matt Hancock was that anyone who needed a dentist could easily see one in an emergency hub, all they needed to do was ring their GP and ask for a referral. It made me so mad because there has been thread after thread on Mumsnet this past few weeks from people who are in pain and can't access help at all.

have just started 3rd course of antibiotics and medical friend just informed me that Dentists have been redeployed to where ??

I don’t think it’s fair that all they will offer is an extraction.

Not all the dental hubs round here need a referal from a dentist. Some are turn up and be seen.

whereabouts roughly are you?
