Peonies

Usually at this time of year I would pop into any supermarket or florist I passed to see if the peonies are in yet, but of course this year that isn’t an option.

So, has anyone seen peonies on their travels yet? I’ve seen some of the flat kind which look a bit like big poppies but I’m looking for the huge, blowsy, ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ style varieties.

We’ve had a few local people advertising the, although, they don’t quite look “right” to me, I love peonies, my absolute favourite and only available for such a short time! Aldi have bunches of 7 coming in the next week, the looks lovely, but they’re red?! I never think of peonies as red, so....unfortunately I think I will pass them up!

Tesco has them near me. I LOVE them!

My mum got me 2 lovely bunches from Sainsbury’s 2 weeks ago when I had dd3. They came out beautifully and have only just gone.

I got some red peonies from Tesco earlier this week. They haven't opened yet but I am hoping they will be full and luscious. I love peonies.

I too love peonies. My birthday is in early June and I always buy myself some. I prefer the pale or mid pink ones. My gran used to grow the deep red ones in her garden but I don’t like them as cut flowers.

I have tried numerous times to grow them but I don’t have the knack.

They are beautiful @Haggisfish and @OddshoesOddsocks but I am holding out for this kind.

They seem to be very affected by the weather and it is a bit early. My wedding anniversary is over the Whitsun bank holiday. I had them in my bouquet and whenever possible DH buys me some as an anniversary gift but some years he can’t get hold of them until June.

Asking for a friend, but Is it considered to be an "essential shop" to pop round to Waitrose to buy peonies, if I also buy parsnips and non stick baking paper?

In my defence I rarely have to queue at the nearest store.

I've just been to lidl and they have potted peonies 😃. I bought one last year and it's coming to life in my garden

We have a lovely big peony bush in the garden (here when we bought the house) and it is flowering now. There's three big showy dark red flowers and lots more buds to come Jm just hoping we don't get any heavy rain or wind to damage them.

That’s lovely @PuntoEBasta 😊 they were my grandads favourites and he had the most beautiful bush (are they called bushes? It was huge!) in his garden when I was growing up. I’d love to have them in my bouquet when it eventually happens!

Mine came out more than that but I forgot to take a photo in the baby fog, they were absolutely beautiful!

I got these ones in our tiny Tesco Express today.

Myself to them, I got these from a friends florist But will be looking in Lidl tomorrow for one for the garden . I like the pink ones too

I got some beautiful peonies sent to me from Moonpig for my birthday. Blowsy pink and white, very like Sarah Bernhardt if they weren't actually them.

(Oh, that was about ten days ago. Forgot to mention that!)
