I’m baffled as to how this recipe would work? There is no fat (butter or oil) is it a mistake?

1 tea bag
200g sultanas
100g dried apricots, chopped
175g soft brown sugar
2 medium eggs, beaten
225g wholemeal flour
1tsp baking powder
1tsp mixed spice

You'd use the tea bag to make an amount of tea which provides the liquid, and the egg binds everything together. No need for fat.

It's possible to make sponges without fat too: see here.

I knew someone here would know the answer! Thank you.

A proper tea cake! Haven't made one of those for years!

Tell us how it comes out and I might nick your recipe Smile

I will...I need something positive to do, positive but fat free! That’s the motto

I make bara brith, which is a Welsh tea cake, so similar. It's easy to make and comes out lovely and moist.

MyNameWas · 15/05/2020 18:01

Thank you Minnie I’m going to give this a try.

I have a recipe from my grandma called No Fat Tea Loaf. Sounds very similar. It’s lush, especially when thickly spread with butter Grin

MyNameWas · 15/05/2020 18:15

It calls for 175g sugar. Would I mess it up if I reduce this to say 150g?

This is very like the ww tea brack . I used to soak the fruit overnight in the tea and a tablespoon of sweetener . It was delicious.

I read the title as masturbators. In my defence I didn't have my reading glasses on.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 15/05/2020 18:24

Well I read that totally wrong!!
