Can we talk about mobile phones?

I need a new one. I’ve had an iPhone 6 for years and I wasn’t intending to change (on a cheap sim only contract now) but the fucker keeps breaking, battery is crap, doesn’t really take good photos.

However I’m loath to pay the the utterly insane monthly prices for one of the newer iPhones.

Has anyone got a phone that they love and would recommend? I’d really like something with an amazing camera but other than that I use a few apps and browse the internet mainly.

TIA Smile

I’ve just treated myself to the iPhone 11. I really love it! The camera is really good and it’s got good battery life. It’s a change for me as I’ve never had an iPhone before but it seems quite good.

I've got a Samsung A70, it's very nice. Amazing battery, nice big screen, and decent camera. I get 20 GB data, unlimited calls and texts and pay £30 for the phone and data, calls and texts.

Same. I got the 11. And I love it. When I upgrade I do it to the most recent one. Lasts for a long long time. I don’t mind paying the bit of extra money.

I’m a housekeeper. So I have my in use all day listening to audio books. The new one has a fab battery life. And a huge memory. I have never regretted it.

I dragged my feet about upgrading my iphone before lockdown (and don't want to do it now in case I need to go running to an Apple genius for help).

But I've been mortified to find that my monthly contract could cost less (same supplier) with a later model - say 6S upgraded to 8.

Can't advise on other brands; have had iphones for over a decade now. Cold, dead hand, etc ...

You could try it the new iPhone SE. It's around £400 whereas the 11 is around £700 so quite a price difference. I have the 11 and love it but dh just got the SE and is really happy with it for what he needs it for. If you just use it for browsing and apps it would be perfect. The camera isn't as good but would still be an upgrade for you.

Try the new iPhone SE - same size as the 8 but has the same chip as the 11. Great camera too. Plus it starts at £419 for the 64gb version. I buy outright and then pay for a monthly goodybag on Giffgaff - the £8 one is fine for me.

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro. The camera is out of this world. Can’t fault the phone at all it’s great.

I have the google pixel 2. Its quite old, i think they have a pixel 4 now.
I absolutely love this phone. I always had an iphone before. DH has an iphone 11 and my 3 year old phone takes much better pictures! Especially in nightmode. DH is so upset about it, but not willing to change because all our electronics are apple Hmm
I did hear that the pixel 3 and 4 had bad reviews though, so you should research it properly.

Focalpoint · 14/05/2020 17:20

You could buy a refurbished iPhone 2nd hand.

Jeleste Well that’s a load of rubbish because the iPhone 11 was heralded as having the best camera on the market.

Have a look at one plus. It's Android rather than iPhone though

ArfurianLegend · 14/05/2020 17:45

Look at a GooglePixel 3a. It's a year old (and soon to be superceded by the 4a) so it's currently on sale for £279 in Google's online store. It runs the latest and greatest version of Android. Processor wise, it's a mid range phone ( although normal app usage shouldn't be an issue), but the camera is stellar, and uses hardware and software found in Google's flagship phones costing more than twice as much.

Thanks everyone! I can start browsing now I’ve got some ideas

I’ve just got the new SE and I love it

I didn’t want to change to Android, I’m old and can’t learn anything new
