Trying to Sync an ipad to a bluetooth speaker -help!

I have an online lesson in half an hour, and we have been trying for ages to sync my ipad to the speaker so that I can hear my teacher more clearly over facetime. I can play music no problem, but when I try to facetime it either does not make any noise through the speaker, or there is crazy feedback. Same using my iphone.
Any ideas ?

My Bluetooth speaker and my headphones don't work with phone calls I only use them for audible , as soon as a call comes it mutes the audible , there may be someone come along and know of a different way to set it up
